Angry Bridge HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!??????

My Bridge is giving me trouble... message "You need to free up some memory" comes up and my comp is really slowing down... what and where I should clean up...??? I've already switched my "scratch disc" to ED that have more memory, thought that would help, but NO it's still keep throwing me off... and that's only working with 3000 pictures... I am thinking of how some people have 17000 pictures to work with without crushing...??? I bet I have only one "tinsy-wintsy" thing in settings to change to make it right, but don't know which one ???... may be even settings that you using for the Bridge CS4... I've tried to find answers in Martin Evening "Adobe Photoshop CS4 for photographers" book, but all I could find is to : "Purge history in Photoshop, but nothing about Bridge... and when I clicked on "Purge cache" in Bridge it warned me if I really want to loose all my work... so I canceled out of it... I appreciate all the help...

Tatiana, if I understand what you're saying (and I kind of remember your earlier post about freeing some space on your computer) is that your computer is asking you to free up some memory. Before, I think you were talking about space on the hard drive.
If that's right, then what you did earlier was move stuff onto your EHD, which freed up space on the hard drive.
But now, you need to free up some memory. Or add some. It sounds like you're using a lot of the computer's resources and it's telling you it doesn't have enough RAM (random access memory) to handle it. So you can: only use one program at a time, or not work on so many photos at one time. But, I'd recommend buying (it's cheap) some new memory. It's easy to install, or you could have someone at a place like Best Buy do it for you.
Does that make sense? Sorry if that was a convoluted explanation!

Thanks Kerry !
I've been reading some forums on Adobe site about "Bridge low memory message" in particular and I think the problem is (hope "was") my cache memory... so I purged cache from those folders... it seems working now, but for how long... ??? and isn't it there settings (I remember) for: "Purge cache to folders when possible" I thought that's how I've set it... and also I had to restart Bridge with holding "Opt" key so I reset it... cross my fingers and EYES for now... O-oh and I already have purchased another 1 TB drive, but I really want to finish working on my last pictures before starting the new one... I also deleted some older backups from ED is that OK...??? that gave me more space too... hope I didn't trashed anything important... I also read that there is "Disc Warrior" program that should be ran for some clean ups... give me your opinion on all that please...
Thanks again !!!
Here is the link that I was reading for everybody:

Tatiana, it does sounds like it is complaining about memory (RAM) not your storage space (space on EHD).

Do you have a lot of programs running at once on your machine? Have you rebooted your machine recently?

Often some programs will get into an unstable state and begin "leaking" memory. Often rebooting your machine and opening programs back up will correct this problem. You may have had your computer or a certain program which is causing your problem running for too long and it just needs a fresh reboot to make everything perfect with the world again.

Here are some settings you can check to see if they will help with your problem:

1) in Bridge Preferences -> Cache -> Compact Cache
but since you have recently purged your cache, this likely won't help now but in the future, it is good to compact your cache from time to time to help performance

2) in Bridge Preferences -> Startup Scripts -> reduce the number of applications it automatically starts when you open Photoshop... turn off any you don't use. I only have Adobe Bridge CS4, Adobe Output Module and Adobe Photoshop CS4 checked as I don't use the others and they will just use up more of your computer memory running which sounds like where the problem you are having is

3) in Photoshop CS4 Preferences -> Performance -> Memory Usage - increase the amount of memory you are letting Photoshop use of your total memory. It gives it an ideal range but if you are only using Photoshop and not other programs at the same time, you can bump it up a bit higher without affecting how your machine runs. I allow mine to use 70% of my memory for Photoshop (or about 2.2Gig).

Hope that helps! I also know how frustrating computers can be when they don't work the way we want or when we want... I refused to use a computer until I was in university and was REQUIRED to because of the bad luck I originally had with them.

Thanks Heather !
Boy you learn alot when you start having any problems... like did you even know that you can dump cache manually by dragging it to the trash...??? well I am putting another link that explains about that... and also will help people who had/have CS3 and upgraded to CS4...:
Adobe Forums: Cache build-up in Bridge CS3 and CS4
...although for me all that it still "dark forest"... on your question about how many programs I'm running at ones... only CS4/Bridge and sometime I have internet open, but usually I log off when I work with pictures... so why my comp. slows down...??? even internet start slowing down quite a bit now... Heather probably right that I need more RAM, but how do I clean or free it up I really don't know... I will try to reduce the start up scripts (see I didn't understand what I needed), but besides getting more Internal memory, what else can I do... even after reading that forum I've posted above I'm not sure...
Heather or Kerry or whoever HELP... in SIMPLE WORDS !!! Like take this and dump it over there... LOL

Tatiana, do you know how much memory (RAM) your computer has? Is it a PC? Laptop or desktop? And what operating system?
I'm no expert, and Heather is a lot better informed and explains things much more clearly than I do, but I do live with "Techno-man" and he's rubbed off on me a little tiny bit.
Answer the above questions and maybe we can offer more help! Computers can be so frustrating, can't they?

RAM=memory, so you've got 4GB, which is twice as much as I have on my MacBook Pro, plus you have a faster processor! So you shouldn't be having so much trouble!
Can you find one more thing? When you look in the system profiler (apple>about this mac>more info) then look at "serial ATA", how much hard drive space do you have left? It will say "available".
I'm thinking maybe you've filled your HD to more than about 90% full? That could really slow things down. I try to keep about 30 GB of space on my 120GB HD free and that seems to help to keep things moving.
Let me know....

memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

That is your RAM. Try going to:

Photoshop -> Preferences -> Performance and change the "Let Photoshop Use" to a higher number

Since you have 4GB, you can probably pretty safely increase it to 3GB (3000 MB) or a bit higher without impacting your ability to open your internet browser, etc at the same time.

Here are a couple of screenshots to hopefully help you.

We should chat room! LOL
Tatiana, not ATA but Serial ATA. Try that?

Actually, you can see that info in the Photoshop Pref. Performance window, too.

I am on the verge of tears... the problem persist so bad... that I can't work with bridge at all... besides that after reseting it by holding Opt. key, I have LOST all my key words... I kinda getting over that, but I have tried everything Adobe have suggested, like dragging Cache folder to trash and emptying it and downloading all updates and restarting... and I know I have enough space on my HD and ED... it just crashes on me... I have NO idea how I can look at my pictures at all... not to say HOW I CAN SCRAP any pages ??? When I tried to look thru my supply folders first it wouldn't show PSD files (just blank), but then it just crushed at all...
I am panicking pretty bad... anybody have any ideas ???

Tatiana, you're right...it looks like you have plenty of HD space available & plenty of memory, too.
Is all of your stuff backed up? If not, I'd do that right away.
Have you tried to call either Adobe or Apple?
This is definitely over my head. I wish I could help!
Are your other programs working OK?

Thanks Kerry I understand... that's the point I don't use anything else, but CS4/Bridge/Safari/check mail... that's IT... I'm going to call Apple... I know they might say it's Adobe problem, but I've read on forum about running "Defragment" program and something about "Repair Permission" and some kinda "Cocktail"... OY VEY... so may be they can help me with that...

You know guys you start believe in prayer even more... after I was about GIVE UP for the rest of this day at least... I have restarted the Bridge one more time... after my comp. made alots of noise of something "burning"... and TA-DA... it's THANK GOD... no REALLY... it started to pull all files with ease, and even though I have to go now thru all my DDs supplies folder by folder to recover all keywords that I've assigned... but at least all my work on key wording is not lost... I don't know for how long I will have that LUCK... LOL... but on the back of my mine is still rolling... what about next trip and next BIG shoot... what would happen... so what I really would like is... to ask "SuseADoodle" how she have her Bridge and everything set up, I would like to here also from other people that work with THOUSANDS of photos as well... please give me some feed back if possible I'd appreciate it VERY MUCH...
Thanks to all !!!

Didn't know you were having all these problems, dear one! Sounds like Kerry and Heather were doing all they could to help. And a restart seemed to do it? GREAT. Hang in there. You've become the expert we'll go to now as you've read all about Bridge and it's problems! So glad to "hear" you.
