Default Cassie is Amazing!!!!

I just read Cassie's tutorial on actions. You can find it here: Reel Time Tips Episode No. 02: Custom Photoshop Actions. Then I set up an action to resize and lighten my pages so I can upload them to Shutterfly. Then I contacted Cassie and she was nice enough to explain how to run them as a batch. She explained it perfectly and I set it to run as a batch. Then I went and took a bath. After getting dressed I checked on my pages and they were all done!!! You can't beat that. Thanks, Cassie, for making my day!

Oh, and thanks, also, to Bailey (Starlite9711) for suggesting that I run it as a batch. You DD ladies are amazing!

Don't you love finding time-saving tips! I know that this is available but have never really put it to use... I guess I just like the torture of doing the same thing over and over. Hmmmm... sounds like dishes and laundry. Now if Cassie could only figure out how to make an action for that!!! :-)

Hmmm, I would love to know how to do a batch myself. I know how to make the action, and I have Cassie's tutorial, but the batch thing I wouldn't know either!

I am so with you on that Janet. That tutorial has been by far THE BEST. I still smile (no joke) ever time I press F3 and viola a new blank LO ready to go. Or F2 and viola LO saved for DD sharing...with one button! I also have an F key for sticker making and drop shadows. It just doesn't get any better than that!

Janet, you're too sweet. Thanks for the kind words.

For any of you who want to do batch processing, it's an option for Photoshop users. Photoshop Elements does have a "Process Multiple Files" option, but it is more limiting. It will let you resize though, and that's handy. :0

If you use Photoshop, you can create an action for whatever it is you want to do. I would create the action of the steps without including the "open" or "save/close" steps in it. Then you can run that action on a whole folder of files at once. Just go to File > Automate > Batch, and you'll see the window below. Once you have that up, you can select the Action set and Action to run on the images in the "PLAY" section. Then in the "Source" section, click Choose and direct it to the desired folder. Then under "Destination," click Choose and then select either "Save and Close" to overwrite the existing files (not really recommended) or "Folder" to create a new folder of the images that have had the action run on them. You can even tell it how you want to name the files as they're processed.

I hope this makes sense.

Is there a way to add a F key to an already existing action? Or do i have to recreate it to enable the use of the F key??

Thanks.

You sure can. Just highlight the action. Then in the upper right corner of the Actions palette, click the little menu flyout button and select "Action Options." That will bring up a dialog box that lets you assign an F key or a color.

This is kinda tempting me to go over to PS Cassie. What is the earliest version where actions are doable? I have CS (the one that pushed me over the brink as a teach-myself...before DD!)

Default Photoshop Elements 8.0

I just downloaded PSE 8.0 last week and according to the Adobe Website it can performs actions created by Photoshop CS3... following is copied from the adobe website.. just fyi

Automated Actions Lets you perform a series of tasks on a photo. Photoshop Elements comes with a set of actions. You can also play actions created in Adobe Photoshop CS3. Keep in mind that the custom actions can only perform tasks that use features supported in Photoshop Elements, and may not work on all file types or layers.

Photographic Effects Lets you apply effects to create a line drawing, create an old-fashioned photo look, and make a photo look saturated like slide film images.

Might be interesting to give it a try.. Donna NJ

Maureen, I just checked my 1996 version of Photoshop 4.0, (not cs4) and see lots of actions that I made on it, including drop shadows, vignettes and other things. I have earlier versions, but they were on long, gone computers.
I don't remember trying to bring them to a new version though since I just made new actions. I bet I have some neat other things in the old Photoshop programs that I can bring over.
