Default Portable Storage ?

Dh needs portable storage for work stuff. Found a deal for 500GB Portable hard drives. a toshiba and WD same price. anyone familiar with their port. hd? Are they reliable while being carried? I know the EHD's do not like to be moved. But these are called "portable". Is toshiba better than WD? or Should I get a larger flash usb drive instead. He wants to have all his important work stuff organized (things that he's saved from past jobs, things he'd like to save from current or future jobs), so a 32gb flash could suffice, but the 500gb portable isn't that much more money.

i'd get a rugged one. i have been looking at them myself. i'd like to get the laCie 1TB rugged EHD but i haven't seen enough reviews to make sure.

i don't know anything about toshiba, but i won't get a WD because of other people's complaints about them.

i think if you are getting it for travel, then it needs to be "rugged" and you can put that in the search at amazon and several options come up. i'll be watching to see what others say on this thread myself.

I have a Toshiba, and bought a Case Logic hard zippered case for it. I carry this drive everywhere and love it; never had a problem with it. It came with automatic backup software, which I removed.

I purchased My Passport for Mac 500GB by WD in the Spring to transport digital scrapbook files and photos back and forth from our lake cabin to home. It has made many many trips all summer and is working fine. Of course, I am very careful with it. It goes in a padded case and then in my padded computer bag for travel.

I also back up everything on CD's in case the Passport fails.

I have 2 toshiba passport always connected, one for supplies, one for photos. They have worked well so far, while I had problems with a WD I owned. I also have a 1 TB Fantom Drives for double backup. That one is not portable though. Long story short, I like the toshiba

Thanks Ladies. DH is sometimes rough on electronics (he doesn't even get to touch my DSLR unless I'm there to supervise lol) so after reading your thoughts, I think I will get the Toshiba with a hard case and a USB flash drive. He can carry the stick without problems and back up to the Toshiba (carrying that only when needed).
