Default grammar?

Doing some journalling and am wondering....

Can I write "He's just turned 4" as in he has...just turned 4? Or, is the ' only for "is" - as in "he is 4" and not the past tense?

I'm having one of those moments where I can't remember 6th grade English and not really sure where to turn.....

I think "he just turned 4" is OK, too. I always learned that less is more but I know there are a couple of English teachers around here who can answer definitively!

Will those English teachers be reading your book/page? ;-) I think "he's" is fine.

from dictionary:
he's (hz)
1. Contraction of he is: He's going to school today.
2. Contraction of he has: He's already been to the museum.

When I do my journaling I try to write the way I would say it if my brain and tongue were working at the same time. The page should reflect you so go with what sounds good to you.

The contraction can be used for both is and has. As Dorah says, right the way you speak and the page will 'sound' like you.
