Default Solid State Hard Drive?

My DH (edit: whoops! I meant DS) is an electrical engineer. (He's the kid that took apart our first computer and put it back together again when he was nine.... How did I survive motherhood????)

Last night he told me that I should consider having him replace my internal 80 GB HD with a solid state hard drive, and then my little Mac Mini would really be fast. (He's the one who upgraded my RAM for about $30, when Apple would have charged me over $200). He says 120GB solid state internal HD would run me about $350.

That is cheaper than a new computer.... Is he turning my Mac Mini into a hot-rod? Should I consider a new suspension, too? (He is also a car fanatic).

Haha Lynn, I say GO FOR IT! My DH said the same thing about "solid state" He says there is virtually no room for failure as there is no "moving" parts. Of course Im sure I could find a way to break it, without trying. lol

Only downside I see is I would eat up 120GB in no time flat.. I eat up 1TB pretty quick. They are supposed to be darn nice but have the pricy price tag to go with it. If he wants to, I wouldn't say no

If he wants to do it, go for it. It's always good to keep the spouses happy! :-)

OH! I just realized I typed DH, when I meant DS!! LOL! My husband is not the electrical engineer, that is my son! LOL....

I just checked with Crucial, and they don't show any SSD as compatible with my Mac Mini,-- only for the Mac Books. But my son says it can be done. I am not rushing into this. More like a fun thing to think about for the future.
