Default Mac question

for all you new Mac users. When you changed to the Mac platform did you have to purchase your programs again, like CS4 and LR? I would hate to run into that expense again and was wondering if there is some exchange program? I kind of thought there was a thread about this before but couldn't find it.

As far as I know, Yes -- you do have to repurchase the software . . . that is the one down side.

I had only one expensive program that was bought before I got Mac, but there was 2 CD's for Windows and Mac, so I loaded one for Mac and didn't had any trouble... but when I asked same question Apple guys told me that if you contact the program cast.serv. they can do something for you and one more thing Apple has fewer but of the best programs, Windows have more variety, so some of them you are not going to be able to use... unless you get "Parallels" and run both Windows and Mac on the Mac... I never did... may be somebody did and can answer...

Anke, I think you contact Adobe Customer Service and they will help you make the switch; you have to destroy your Windows version.

You do not need to repurchase CS4 or LR.

For CS4, like Amy says, contact Adobe Customer Service (800-833-6687) and they can help you in making the switch and your license will be changed from a Windows to a Mac one so you will need to remove it from the Windows before putting it onto the Mac.

For LR, both versions come in the same box so no need to have the license changed over. Just uninstall from the Windows machine and reinstall onto the Mac machine. Check the side of your box to make sure it says both Mac & Windows but it should.

So much fun! loving Mac converts

Anke, it is a piece of cake. You will never regret this change. Night and day. Whichever you like better! Truly, the MAC is simply superior especially for what we do. GO FOR IT!

I called Adobe and they sent me the Mac version in about a week or so. If you need to get to work sooner, download the free 30 day trial until your new Mac CD's arrive. Most plug in's I had like OnOne and Photomatix are licensed for both platforms so I deactivated on my PC and reactivated on the Mac. Easy-peasy, lemon squeezy. I did have to buy Microsoft Office for the Mac. I still have some PC's and had to have both platforms. But it wasn't too painful. And I agree, it's great going to a Mac.

I did get Office for Mac which in some ways is a blessing because you avoid the horrors of Vista. I create Word documents for some of my volunteer work and no one has had any problems with them. Well except for one guy who has problems with 'lots' of things. I think he still is a bit computer illiterate.

I never liked Entourage but had it on my old Mini. We both now use Mail on our Macs and have our various accounts from our IP as different mailboxes. I have 3 and dh has about 5 accnts in his Mail. I had my Gmail there also but ended up keeping that on my Google home page since I rarely use it. Truly, the Mac people will walk you thru all this and really help.

It's good that you're looking at all the ??s that might come up now. It helps to be an educated consumer and at least go into it with your eyes open.

btw, I presume you are getting a laptop but all the new machines do support Parrallels I believe, allowing you to run both platforms. Neither of us has ever had the need tho.

I know there's a discount for upgrading, and you can get your software for substantially less since you've bought it once already. Just make sure you back up any favorite brush stamps, actions, etc before you do

Just went to adobe.com and it says that CS4 full retail is $699 but to upgrade is $199.

well, I did it! I just ordered my new baby! I am glad I called instead of doing the online thing, 'cause he gave me a small discount over the phone for no reason at all. I thought that was really quite nice! How exciting!!!!

I just checked online and the educational discounts and specials are enhanced... CS4 for about $200 etc. When I was in the apple candy store yesterday, the salesperson seemed very willing to "deal" ... don't ask won't get... ask and may be surprised. With school starting now, they are in a sale mode. As I try to learn my hubby's Vista laptop to configure and take to SLC, I'm wondering "why bother"... mac is calling Right Heather...

You are so right.. why bother! in the time you can do what you should have to, to configure the Vista for you, then figure out why it isn't doing what it is supposed to and then maybe finally get it figured out, you could have a shiny new Mac, configure it & get comfortable with the small adjustments to how the OS works

You are going to love it Anke! and you too Carol when you take the plunge..

I ordered the 17 inch MacBookPro. I also upgraded the screen to the anti glare, but that's it. Oh yeah, and I got the service agreement, although we don't have a store close by. I figure I will probably have to call them a lot

I have to jump on board here and say - way to go!! I made the switch (finally) almost 2 years ago - now I have an iMac and a MBP 13" - just simply the best. You'll be so in love and just want to go out and convert the world!
