Default Journaling question

Hi ladies!

I am just getting started in the world of scrapbooking and have decided to tackle a yearly family album (go big or go home!). When you do your journaling, do you do it from your perspective since you are the person creating the album, or do you tend to keep it more generic?

Thanks for any insight!

Yes, I wrote from my persepctive nearly all the time-once in the blue moon, I will take on the perspective of someone else-but I only think I have only taken on the role of an all knowing narrator once or twice

I really prefer to journal from my own perspective. It feels much more real and in 40 years when my son has our books in his lap I want them to read like I'm telling him our story when I may not be around to share with him anymore.

Katrina explains it well for me, too!

Yes, I journal from my own perspective as it woudn't feel personal enough from the 3rd person.

I do include quotes from others and even stories they have to tell. Those stories are told in that page totally from their perspective and their own writing. My DD is writing an e-mail to her friends about her summer vacation - can't wait to snag some of that for a layout!

I generally speak directly to the subject of the page, as if it were a one-sided conversation. I'm good at those in real life, too.

I haven't done that many with journaling - yet, but it would be from my perspective. I am the author and illustrator of my life and with pictures of others it would still be my feeling about them.

I usually do it from my perspective, as well. But sometimes with my teenage daughter I want the page to reflect her feelings so I ask her to help me with the journaling. In those cases, I usually don't do it as a journaling block, but as a list or something similar.

I journal to the person I am 'speaking' to and I ALWAYS journal first. That way I have the story I want to tell all written out and ready to be scrapped when the inspiration hits. Sometimes I have sit down and do the journaling for 8 or 10 layouts at a time and just keep them to teh side until I have time.

The first few layouts I did, I journaled and wrote directly to someone (usually the hubby, since we don't have kids and the dog can't read) but, when I let him look at them he hated them (funny). He asked me to write like I was telling the story to a girlfriend, since those seemed more natural to him. He said that I am way better that way, but I guess I should just be lucky that he reads them. : ) So I generally write from my prospective, but I write so that anyone could pick it up and read it and just get to read a good story.

Choosing point of view depends on the purpose of the page. For a book the essential question is whether you want to be consistent or not. You could choose either and be comfortable. Sometimes I like to take the position of talking to the world at large!

Hi there,
I usually do it from my perspective as well.. sometimes if you are stuck you can just write a few sentences about the event or day you are scrapping. Or you could scrap a conversation between you and someone or even two other people... but yes I agree with what katrinak said.. I want my son and daughter to know what I was thinking or feeling years and years from now.

good luck with scrapping! it's addictive

I would normally journal from my point of view, but the big family history album I did I did it as a third person, which I found very hard actually, but it is a hope that it will be handed down from generation to generation so that was why I did that, so they didn't forget who "I" was telling the story.

Depends on the layout and the story I want to tell. Sometimes I just journal so the story will make sense to anyone who reads the page. And sometimes I journal to the person so it is, like Cassie said above, a one-sided conversation. But in general for a family book I would journal the story from my perspective.

I journal as if I am talking to the person in my pages - much easier that way!

Generally I write as if I am speaking to the subject reading the page. Some of the pages I do of my children I write as if I am speaking to them. sometimes I write as if they were speaking. For the most part, I just love journaling--telling the story behind the page.

While I am new to digital scrapbooking - I've been paper-scrapping for a long time.

But I suppose journaling is the same either way. I tend to journal from my perspective. Sometimes I will veer off that - but if I do, I tend to include dialogue like something my kids said to me - or retell a conversation.
