Default Project 365-Question

Lately, I've found myself taking vertical and horizontal pictures so I don't run into the problem of a vertical picture needing to go into a horizontal template. But what do you gals do (that are using templates) when you have a horizontal picture for a vertical spot on a template or vice versa?? Are you just completely reworking the template or?? I'm not able to shrink my picture enough to get what I need horizontally in the picture without it getting too small for the space allotted.

I'm not going to be much help here---I purchased several templates here, and after two weeks realized it just wasn't going to work. I consistently had the wrong orientation pictures; like you, I couldn't shrink, and I was spending so much time reworking the template that there was no longer a point in using templates. So I made one up where I can put either type of picture in every box.

I hope someone can help you!

Hi Jamie, I dont know if I will be much help either.
I dont know how to explain this..but In my program all I have to do is fill the square template into the block. Its like the fotoblendz... you just fill the photos into it. I can move the photo any place in the box. I can shrink it or enlarge it or move it just where I want it to go.
When i use a template I use it to work for me. Sometimes if I have to I will delete some of the template, enlarge it, or even make it smaller. So I guess I do rework the template just a little.

If you open the template in PSD you can change the orientation of the "photo" spot. Many of them would rework for you. Just move the goodies around to enable you to change it.

Or

Rotate the whole page, turning lettering the right way.

Templates are such easy tools to use and they really are designed to be moved for your needs. HTH

My concern is this...this particular template is for the first 3 days of January (I'm attempting to start over) and it has 3 vertical photo spots. Well I do have 2 vertical photos, but the 3rd is horizontal-so the only thing I can think of is just fill in the rest of the photo box with PP.

I rework the template a little each week. This set of templates has both vertical and horizontal photos on all pages-and there are three different variations. Works great! Fotodayz layered templates No. 1

I must have a look at the ACTUAL template. But yes if there is 3 and you only have 2 then paper or words it would have to be !

I got a few templates at the start of the year, and I admit there are a couple I've never used because I rarely took vertical photos (though I'm now taking more and more as I'm enjoying taking more variety of photos through this project.)

It depends on the template, but I'm using one per month, and I've reworked this months each week to turn round a couple of photo blocks, or resize them. I think it takes a bit of practice as I'm still not that confident at changing templates.

This has been my big hang-up with Project 365 templates. I have avoided templates with strong vertical or horizontal photo spots because I always take a variety--there is no week that has only one or the other. But I have found that square photo spots tend to work OK--it's not the photo I imagined when I was composing it in camera, but if the composition is important to me and I like the photo enough, I simply use it again in a non-Project 365 layout. I also don't worry too much about the order of my pictures--if I do use a template with a mix of vertical and horizontal, I use the photo spots that work with my photos from that week and don't feel obliged to go in date order around the page.

I've also chosen not to use the same templates all year long; my two-page spreads match, but that's really all that matches. So that frees me up some in regard to template choice every couple weeks. (And I don't always use a template, for that matter.)

I don't use a lot of templates in my 365 pages but if I use one and the orientation is wrong for a photo then I make it work. Usually there is only a portion of the photo that I want to showcase on that page anyway so it works out. But if it's something I really love, then like Laura, I make another page using just that photo.

If you have a fairly neutral background to the photo and only need it a bit bigger, here's a trick I read about a while back to stretch the background. With the marquee tool selected, draw a rectangle around a portion of the background that could be 'stretched' (the full height of the photo). Then with the transform tool, pull the side of the selection out to stretch the background a bit. It gets distorted quickly, so it's hard to do if there's much detail in the background, but if the background is a sky or plain colored wall, etc, it works great.

I'm using Anna's for this very reason! Since her templates are square, I avoid the vertical/horizontal issue entirely! I do have to get creative with cropping from time to time!

I also use Anna's templates, they are nice and square Many times though I will flip a mask to match my photo, or simply crop the photo to fit, if at all possible. Sometimes you can just blow up a detail of the picture or just make it larger kwim?

Jaime, If I needed to make a picture shorter with the rest long, I'd just fill a row of brads, or maybe stitch a bit of paper down to bring the short photo up to the same length of the longer ones.

Here's a for instance.
Project 365 - May - first Saturday - Digital Scrapbooking Ideas - DesignerDigitals

I wasn't going to be able to make those two photos any longer or wider so I just filled in the gap with brads.

Or another for instance.
Project 365 - March 8 to 14 - Digital Scrapbooking Ideas - DesignerDigitals

Filled with a stitched bit of paper.

Thank you! This is what I am going to do. Somewhere along the way I started taking pictures both directions, but not always does that happen. Why again isn't this a perfect world??? lol

Thanks for the suggestion!

I ran into a problem this week with having to make a square, but needing to use the entire rectangular photo. I ended up making myself a square, putting the rectangular photo in it and then filling the white space with info.

That's what I've been doing with mine---I never intended it to end up such a journaling project, but I take the pictures and make them fit in the spaces, and then whatever space I have left over, I fill in with journaling.

I'll be glad when December comes!!
