Question Linking Layers in Photoshop 7

I'm trying to figure out how to link layers in Photoshop 7. Steph explained it to me when we went out to dinner on Monday (Hi Steph! ), but the method she described doesn't work for me. I don't have the little chain link icon in my layers pallette.

Is this possible in PS7? I'm real tired of having to move a bunch a layers when I have a title and don't like where it is positioned.

Ashley, when you select your layers you want to link together, try right clicking on them and see if you get a list of options. I believe you should get an option in that list to Link Layers. I get this in both my PSE4 and CS4 and is how I do all my linking as I find it faster than using the link icon.

I don't have PSE 7, I have the super duper oldschool Photoshop 7.

I have photoshop 7 too and if I get what you're asking you'll see an eye beside your layers (where you can hide your layer if you wish) and then a blank box beside that. So you'll just click on the blank box of the layers you want to link and you'll see a little chain icon. I'm not good at explaining things but does that make any sense?

Hi Ashley!

Sorry I can't help with your question. I've never used PS7.

I see now that I misunderstood your original question ... Brittany's answer should hopefully work for you. What I'd like to be able to do is move a set of linked layers within the layers palette itself without having to merge them... Is that possible???

I just upgraded from Photoshop 7 and believe Brittany is correct. Target your first layer and then click on the empty square next to the eyeball on the layer you want to link to that hightlighted target. Just keep clicking empty squares on any layers you want linked.

On the other hand, click on the link in the square to unlink.

As long as they're linked they'll move together!

Let me try explaining a different way ... I don't want to move the images on the page - I want to move the linked layers themselves in the palette - all together at once. Like moving a group of linked images from the front to the back, etc. Does that make sense? Thanks for trying to help...

You can move the linked layers up or down in the layers palette. Just make sure they are all highlighted (by right clicking and choosing Select Linked) and then they will move as a group in the layers palette. Have fun!
