First, let me say hi to everyone. This is my first post here although I've been lurking faithfully for well over a year now. Everyone here seems so friendly and helpful. I really enjoy browsing the gallery and forum. Now on to my questions:
After reading everyone's glowing reviews about Shutterfly I decided I would like to give it a try. But as I'm making my pages I had a question that keeps lingering in my head. What is a good font size to use on 12x12 pages? I went back through some previous posts and found a few that said not to use anything more than 14pt. I was using Times New Roman at 20pt which looked fine on my screen but I'm wondering once printed will it look huge in comparison to the rest of the page? So I'm wondering, what font and size do the rest of you tend to use on 12x12 pages? Another perplexing problem for me-what if I want to reprint my 12x12 book in 8x8, if I use a smaller font on the bigger book will it tend to be too small on the smaller book? I figured I might as well jump on board and just ask the pros instead of guessing myself! Jan |

Depends on the font really, but I use between 12 to 14 on a 12x12 page.

Hi and Welcome to DD!
Good question, Jan. I have experimented with different sizes and wondered what is best, too. Like Carol said, it depends somewhat on the font. I find that some script fonts are too small to read at 12 pt and have to be made bigger. Do you have a home printer so you could print out one 8 x 8 scrapbook book page as a test to see if you like a particular font in a particular size? I really think doing this helped me decide about size of not only the journaling text and titles, but, the size of elements, too. When I started I found that my elements, like staples, were too big!

Thank you for all the wonderful replies. I think I'll try to print both a 12x12 and 8x8 page off on my Epson printer to see how everything looks. That way I should know for sure then.

You can make your layout 8 x 8 on your monitor too. I use a ruler (not the ruler that is in Photoshop) and size my page as closely as I can to 8 x 8 inches. And, then if I can comfortably read the type ... I'm 99% sure that it will be ledgible in print. If in doubt, do as Merrilee said and print one out.
