Default PS help!

I must have unwittingly changed a setting in PS and can't figure out what!
Every time I try to use a brush, it stamps invisible. I have the opacity at 100%, the mode is normal, the color is what I want it to be, it's on a top layer, etc. But I can't see it!
In addition, and this might be related, every time I make a drop shadow, it's white, even though my foreground color is set to black.
Can anyone help?!

Kerry, try resetting things this way:

Close PS.
Hold the Shift + Cmd/Ctrl + Opt/Alt key all at once while you relaunch PS.
When you get this dialog box, click YES.

If that doesn't help, let me know.

Cassie, you're brilliant.
What happened and why? Did I do something to cause that to happen?
And what did your fix actually do?
You're the best (meaning: THANK YOU!)

Beats me, Kerry. Sometimes the software just gets little bugs. That resets everything back to the defaults.

I'm glad it worked!
