Default Very disturbing news regarding CK Media

they too are having financial difficulties

I recevied notice from them today regarding money that they owe me for publications, they are offering a one time payment of 40% of what they owe -$80.00 for the $200.00 that they contracted with me for.

If I don't accept that who knows if I will ever get paid. : (

very depressing and so not fair : (

they also stated that they cannot continue to operate unless the secured lenders approve - we may have seen the last of Creating Keepsakes

just had to share in case you too have been patiently waiting for payment from CK Media.

Yes, it really is bad. They are very much in debt. Hopefully the restructuring process will work for them.

OK - I'm not sure if I would even still be scrapping if it weren't for all the inspiration I got from all my CK magazines - I am so thankful I have this place to turn to for inspiration & feel like I should send a donation to help keep CK alive!

Bummer Mary on the payment though!

not only CK, but paper crafts and a bunch of quilt magazines that CK media owns are in trouble. they've already killed of simple scrapbooks and DSM, and cut paper crafts down to only 6 issues a year.

Mary, I'm sorry that they can't pay you properly! That's terrible. I hope they don't go under. I just got this month's issue and found that it had some great LO's in there to lift and enjoy looking at. Sometimes I don't care for the entire issue, and sometimes I find lots of inspiration in there...this was a "lots" month. I hope they stick around.

I really love this magazine, have been a subscriber since the very beginning...I would even submit designs without getting paid at all if that was necessary to keep them afloat - just disappointed that they can't fulfill their financial obligations to the designers that make the magazine what it is...

sorry Randy : (

Oh Mary, that stinks! I hope something will work our for you there.

I was reading in the April issue of CK that the will not be having the Hall of Fame this year or the Scrapbooker of the Year contests and that they will re-evaluate the situation next year!

It seems the worse is not over yet..but think positive and believe that something will come in it's place or it will become something better in the end. I am so sorry about your pay...but that seems to be a sign of the times too..alot of people are getting pay cuts these days...some where I work just did..they're not happy about it but happy to still have a job. Times are pretty hard for alot of people. Have a sneaking suspicion my craft may be in line for a reduction in pay also...but I will take that over a reduction in staff! Try to stay positive!

If may be a 'sign of the times' but it is such an ominous one! There are quite a few great mags, but CK seemed to be the key one. It's the only one I subscribe to and I so enjoy seeing pages from so many of my online friends in there! So sorry about those who will are having to take the 40% settlement!

That is awful Mary! Guess that means that those of us who were subscribers to Simple and DSM won't be getting extensions on our CK subscriptions to make up for their going under. I had just renewed all of them, and three gift subscriptions, so I guess in a way I did "donate" to their keeping CK afloat. ;-) Really feel bad for contributors who aren't getting paid. These are frightening times.

Some folks are owed thousands of dollars... Unbelievable. I mean if it weren't in the budget...

I received the 40% "discount" also in the mail . . . not as much as you, but at least it's something. Frankly, I was surprised to get anything. btw, does anyone know what "Its" means after the place to sign your name, etc.?

that is really too bad Mary, that is a large cute in pay! This whole industry is suffering so badly, I hate to see it. I sincerely hope that they will survive!

I guess I shouldn't be complaining if there are designers out there who are owed thousands of dollars....

and I completely understand Vicki about pay cuts, but they usually aren't retroactive if you know what I mean.

I too hope they can survive a restructuring. Their lack of subscriptions, sales, etc...affects the paper industry as well. A local mill here that makes glossy paper, just layed off workers and are planning a six week shut down.
