Default Words To Live By -- chat notes & links

WORDS TO LIVE BY
Here are my notes --- post links to your layouts that correspond and note point #

WHAT’S IN A TITLE? WHY ARE TITLES IMPT? ARE THEY ALWAYS IMPT?
* cue to subject
* theme setter
* path to deeper meaning

1. THE SIMPLE LABEL

you can name the subject or what’s going on/the activity
“Us” by Flowergirl
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...ll&limit=last7

“Meeting Tara” by Kayleigh: http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...ll&limit=last7
name a place
Travel pages are often well served with a label of the place“Northington Grange” by britgirl: http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...hp?photo=89714
name an attitude or state
“Curious” by earlofoxford: http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...ll&limit=last7

SUGGESTED PRODUCTS:

Reflected Thoughts Brushes and Stamps http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...oducts_id/6105

you can search by theme--Pregnancy hand-drawn brushes by Ali
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...oducts_id/6529

domesticity hand-drawn brushes by Ali
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...oducts_id/6282

abstract token words by Anna
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...oducts_id/5642

2. HOW DO YOU TAKE THE LABEL TO SOMETHING MORE MEANINGFUL?

try an adjective-noun combo
“Techno Girl” by phfphd: http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...ll&limit=last7

SUGGESTED PRODUCTS:

adjective monograms brushes and stamps
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...oducts_id/6136

Linen titles by Jesse
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...oducts_id/3668
label a smaller element of your subject that represents larger meaning
“Aunt Velma’s Stitches”
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...hp?photo=89721
for example, Mollie’s layout “Aunt Velma’s Stitches” represents the 500 quilts she’s made but even more the care and love she put into them.

“Nerves” by Steph”
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...29&ppuser=1135

TRY THIS APPROACH: use your label of the obvious as a placeholder
1) “Friends”
2) add an adjective: “Old Friends”
3) as you scrap think about what’s REALLY in front of you . .. yes they’re old friends . . but what’s their state? What’s going on? What’s surprising? “Initially Awkward”
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...38&ppuser=2264

3. THE TITLE THAT’S A COMMAND/ADVICE
“Celebrate Snow” by Erin
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...ll&limit=last7

“Shine On” by Cassie
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...043&ppuser=769

http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...oducts_id/5632

6. YOUR JOURNALING AS TITLE SOURCE

title as lead-in to journaling

http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...96&ppuser=1135

“Just Because” by Cassie
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...093&ppuser=769

line from the journaling as title
“the kind of woman” by me: http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...75&ppuser=2264

& try again by Paula
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...154&ppuser=205
End journaling with line that’s your title
A mother can love by Katrina
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...54&ppuser=1634

SUGGESTED PRODUCTS

“Bubble Thoughts” by Mary Ann
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...oducts_id/1149

Punctuation Brushes Stamps, Art Warehouse
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...oducts_id/4576

TRY THIS APPROACH: label to synonym to quote fragment
1) come up with a label: Flight; Flight Museum
2) look up synonyms for key words and connections those key words trigger: from flight I went to air, fly, skim, soar, rise, ascend.
3) Look for quotes and lyrics that use the words you’re drawn to
I found a Helen Keller quote: One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar.
4) Pluck out the part that matters to you: I took “Impulse to soar” and the page became about more than our trip to a flight museum; it became about my boys’ fascination with flight.
7. HAVE FUN

word play & double meaning
“How Ewe Doing?” by bluelemur: http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...ll&limit=last7

“Leave the leaves” by 1gr8muggle: http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...368&ppuser=769

“Puzzling” by me: http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...85&ppuser=2264
associations with popular culture

Debbie, I can't thank you enough for the chat, the great layout examples, and the product suggestions. This summary is so helpful!

Here's my example of ending the journaling with a line that's the title:

Dang, Debbie. We have a significant other concept in common!! Thanks for this great thread of such rich information. I was so happy you liked my Techno Girl. I will be digesting this information and trying to use more alphas and titles instead of just fonts. This is so encouraging.
