Default newbie q's re:scrap for others rates & shutterfly

Hi everyone!

My name is Melissa and this is my first official post (finally!) I am very new to digital scrapbooking but have been a designer for an events company for the last few years (I am now self-employed). I am self trained on Photoshop and Illustrator (plus some classes) but have a degree in Psychology, so when I get very frustrated with Photoshop I try to "talk it out" with the beast

Anyhoo, my major love is actually creating the products, which will be sprinkled in my layouts along with DD designs. (Are we allowed to upload our original creations here?)

I have a few newbie q's I hope you can help me with.
1) I have a few requests for scrapping for others and I am not sure how to charge for this. Is there a thread I can be directed to on this topic? I am now a freelance designer but am not sure if I should charge the same amount for this kind of work that I charge for that kind of work.

2) Can you please explain the books on Shutterfly? It looks like there are several templates from which to choose but do you also have the option of creating all of your pages custom rather than using the templates? A friend wants me to create a babybook for her daughter and I thought Shutterfly would be great for the binding, but I want to do all the creating of the pages! help!

Thanks much! I hope to be a new "face" you will be seeing alot of around here (that is, when I get around to adding a picture).

Melissa

welcome to DD!
sure you can upload pages featuring your own creations

I have never scrapped for others, just for rme and gifts - so I can't help you there : ) I have no idea - maybe an hourly fee

there are definately lots of templates to create shutterfly books (serveral to choose from here at DD), but you can also do your own layouts and uploads those. Several of us (here at DD) did a Daily December challenge and had books printed at shutterfly...using our own layouts - there is a blank page option for your book and then after uploading all your layouts - you can arrange them...

hope that helps - this is a fabulous place- you will enjoy it here!

Hello, and welcome to DD. You are welcome to use your own designs on your pages as we have an open gallery. You may not, however, provide links to any other stores or your own blog promoting products.

I'm a scrapper-for-hire and happy to answer any questions you have. Like most people, I charge on a per-page basis. The rate goes down as a customer buys more pages. If you click on my website link in my sig, you can see all my pricing.

Regarding Shutterfly, they do have Digital Scrapbooking options for many of their products. The Shutterfly linkinn my sig takes you to the landing page for scrapbooking products.

You can also just click on "PRINT SERVICES" at the top of this site's pages and you will be taken directly to Shutterfly's digital scrapbooking services. It will also add any current DD promotions to your SF account automatically when you sign in.

Just a tip if you are printing your own scrapbook pages through shutterfly. Make sure to turn off Vivid Pix which is located under effects and I like to lighten my pages in Photoshop before up loading to Shutterfly.
