Laura - if you go here
Lynn has shared her tips on how to set iphotos up for organizing your digital supplies.
It is wonderful. I (& many others) learnt so much about iphotos from that one post.

I also had lots of fun setting up my digital supplies. It does take a little time, BUT it is well worth it!!!! And so easy to keep up with once you have done the initial setup.

yes, i used lynns tips. I printed them out. The one thing that scared me was i thought i deleted my library of pictures when i made a new library. I didnt though because when you start iphoto, while holding the option key, it asks you which library you want! Very cool!

iPhoto is an amazing tool but make SURE you back up your entire library to an EHD. A year ago I had a major crash and lost everything in iPhoto! It's a pain to do but well worth it in the end.

From what I can tell comparing iPhoto new version (09) to the older ones there are significant improvements in function. I have been tagging digi stuff in it's own library since Lynn shared here methods and I have discovered on thing troubling. iPhoto creates an alias which is what it uses to work with the files in iPhoto ( instead of moving your file from it's original location or making a full copy). Unfortunately the alias/aliai show up in any searches with Finder and really crowd the field...making Finder less efficient. I want to use both on occasion so this is a bit irritating.

Sort your search results by filetype, Patricia! That is what I do.

Just click on "kind" and the aliases will all be together- and out of your way. If I am looking for something, I usually know whether it is a .PNG or a .JPG or .ABR or whatever.
