Default getting a "password needed" error when I try to unzip files (not dd site)

hello ladies,
this is not a DD question, but I was hoping some of you computer-saavy folks might be able to help. I purchased and downloaded a file (not dd; I've never had issues with dd files!) from a reputable internet store.

However, when I try to unzip it as I normally unzip files, it keeps giving me a "password needed" error.

Is there ANY way this is a fault with my computer, or would it have to be something wrong with the file that was downloaded? I don't think I have internet connectivity issues, and I have NEVER had this issue with any other downloaded file from anywhere. In fact, I recently purchased & unzipped some of my (many) dd files w/out issue.

I did contact the store owner and they said they've never heard of that error and nobody else is getting it when they purchase & unzip that particular file. I think they're going to work with me, or give me my $ back, but I was just wondering what causes that password error? Do you think it's something wrong on my end?

thanks in advance!
Jennifer

Jennifer, I have had that error before both from here and other sites and both times it was because my internet connection was interrupted during the download and the entire zip file wasn't downloaded completely.
You don't have to have constant connectivity issues, just a slight interruption during a download will do it, and you probably wouldn't even notice your service was interrupted. I would try deleting the file, rebooting the computer and and downloading the file again, but to a different location on your computer.

You would think that just downloading the file again would correct the problem, but most ISP's are lazy and when you go to download again they automatically retrieve the same information even if it's incomplete in order to save a few cents worth of bandwidth or something.

At least, that was my experience and both times it worked for me... hope it's that simple for you!

exactly what christine said. that can happen, even here! if there's interference on your line when downloading or if connection is interrupted. I would re-download and see if the problem presists! HTH!

Thanks, Christine & Katie! I did what you suggested (deleted old ones, cleared cache, rebooted) and this time it FINALLY worked. Yah! I appreciate your tips. I was ready to give up!
