Just thought I'd mention to those who are following Lynn's ideas about using iPhoto to organize digital art items that the new iPhoto is out. I'm due to get mine tomorrow and hope to find new uses in underlayers...following my guru, Lynn

Anyone thinking of getting the new version of iphotos just be careful as
iphotos '09 will only run if you have these system Requirements: Mac OS X v10.5.6 Leopard or later As I am still running on tiger and OS X 10.4.11 I will have to wait until I update to leopard. I am not too sure if I want to do this yet, as I am very happy with what I have set up at the moment. Patricia - please let us know what you think of the new version of iphotos. Karen |

Hubby has loaded it on his computer, but hasn't put it on mine yet, maybe this weekend. He was tell me that the new iphoto has a cool face recognition. It matches faces up and it puts it in folders I think. So it will scan all my faces and put them together, that way if I'm looking for a photo of me, I can find it in one click. He did say it took awhile for iphoto to do this.

OK, I've got it installed and everything in my digi library is working at lightening speed. It did ask if I wanted to locate the files on a map....since it's all DD I figure I already know I am in digi heaven!!
NOTE: Big problem installing....the current version of MacOX10.5.6 did not recognize the disc so restart did not work. If you install, take the disc out before you restart ...even though they do not tell you to...Spent some time with the Apple Care people and they will issue an update to the OX to fix this.... More later after playing. The main reason i upgraded was for iMovie changes which I need for the huge retrospective I am making of my Dad's life. Turned 90 a few weeks ago and there are a LOT of pictures!

Might have to think about upgrading though. I have an Epson R800 printer - a R1800 is on my wish list ![]() Wonder if there is colour management problems with the R800 & Leopard. I would presume so. I am still very interested in what Patricia and everyone else has to say about the iphoto '09 version. Karen A |

Here is the Apple site to see what is different in iPhoto09:
http://www.apple.com/ilife/iphoto/ I have mainly been exploring the iMovie part of iLife for a current project. I can see from the numbers that if you do not already have Leopard this would be a much more costly upgrade. Amy: I do use Epson printers, a R2400 and a R200. Both have drivers on the Epson site and both work fine with Leopard. I don't know about the R1800 but I believe Cassie has that and I am pretty sure she has Leopard. There are new editing tools, new options for slide shows and the ability to upload strait to Flickr. But mainly every since I learned: a. I can play in iPhoto without importing the actual files, b. that I can have several libraries and c. that having a record of photos and videos in iPhoto makes it so easy to create slide shows and DVDs I am more positive about it. I WILL SAY THAT I NEVER USE iPhoto to import into my file system. I use either the basic ImageCapture function on the MAC (when I have video mixed in from my G9 camera) or LR2 when uploading from my Rebel. I learned the hard way that video imported with iPhoto not transfer well. Hope this helps. Be your own judge about whether iLife is worth the price of upgrading to Leopard. Seems steep to me.

Thanks for the info Patricia.
I am still thinking about upgrading. I know apple are offering leopard, ilife & iworks in one bundle - but still not too sure if that is the way I want to go. I wonder if I should stick to the old saying - 'if it aint broke - why fix it!' As I said in a previous post I am happy with my set up. But I am guessing more & more software will come out that will only run on leopard. Karen |
