Default happy with dell?

Hi all... quick question.

I'm looking to buy a laptop and I'm thinking about going with Dell. I've been nervous about buying a computer online in the past, but it seems like they've got what I want at a good price.

Has anyone bought from Dell in the past and did you have a good experience?

Thanks for your help!

The last three computers I've bought have all been Dell, and I've been happy with them!

Thanks for all the quick feedback, everyone! I'm so happy to hear good things - and from such reliable sources!

I hear ya about Vista, Mary... I'm not thrilled about it, either. Just not ready to take the Mac plunge yet... (sorry, Mac fans! ).

Thanks again, you guys!

I agree, I just got my new Dell desktop with XP Pro installed by them.

Yep, I refused to buy the last computer unless they would put XP Pro on it! I have Vista on my laptop, but don't use it for much more than surfing the net.

I go through the online screens to see what the options are, but then I always call to talk to a live person for the order. I've owned five Dells with few problems and those were resolved quickly. My newest one has Vista, and so far it has been fine.

In early dec my gateway laptop died and I wanted to run out and buy an inexpensive laptop at best buy that day . . . my dh counseled me STRONGLY to "hold my horses" and build a Dell---he picked out a studio 1537 for me . . . . . and made me wait TWELVE days.!!! I really love it --- I run cs3 and indesign and bridge with a whole bunch of documents open all at the same time --- it's never crashed yet

Wow, Randy! Is it still an option to get XP installed by them? That would be amazing!

Rebecca, they will install XP for you but sometimes you have to make a call to customer service first.

We've always used Dell & love them - I finally got used to Vista, took awhile. There are actually a few new features on Vista I really like, but I do miss a few of my old ones from XP.

Also, I called Dell about XP - looks like it might be an option on a 15", but I was looking at 17"... so it appears that I will be braving the new world of Vista...

I bought a Mac nearly a year ago, but before that the only computers I'd ever bought were Dell, and when we bought my son his first computer, we bought Dell.

I always loved my Dells.

What I hated, though, and one of the main reasons I wanted to switch, was calling technical service. I always ended up with a headache from trying to interpret what they were saying in their thick accents.

Their technical service was great and quick to help, though, once I figured out what was being said!

Rebecca, I'm on the dell wagon as well! When my PC crashed last Nov, my DH's computer genius uncle that managed to save my scrapbook layouts & supplies recommended we buy Dell when I told him I was going to get a laptop this time around. I had great customer service...got my laptop earlier than they predicted AND I love it

I was told, and it worked for me, that if you call in really early in the morning you will be connected to a US call center. I am in the central time zone.

I bought a 17" Dell laptop 1 year ago. Still have an old Dell laptop and 2 Dell desktops-----the desktops are for work and the old laptop DS uses. I've never had problems with the Dell.

I just bought a MAC a few months ago for digi and love it.

drinking the Dell Koolaid here, too. I'm on my 3rd Dell (first desktop, then laptops.)
When it's time for a new laptop, I'll get a Dell again.
I agree with the others - build your "dream machine" online and then call to order. They are great about working with you to customize your choices.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 - 17" - with Vista - and I love it! It's been awesome. I'm about to order a desktop for my son.

Thanks for all the feedback, you guys. I really appreciate it! Looks like I'll be ordering from Dell. Now to go build my laptop - tricky for someone as indecisive as me.

Wow, that's good to know! I'll have to try that if my son ever has trouble with his. Maybe that was my problem...I'm sure I NEVER called very early!

the other thing you can do is the online chat....that way you get all the expertise and none of the accent.
