Default Templates -- 40th bday book

Hi. I am a complete novice here, but want to make my husband a 40th bday book. I've asked all his friends to each contribute a photo and a paragraph about my husband. I don't know where to start... should I buy a template? I have PHotoshop Elements and am fairly computer savvy. On Shutterfly, I saw a few examples of what I'm trying to do, just don't know where to start. Any help is appreciated!

Do I need templates at all?

Thanks!!!

Welcome to the gallery! I think a template would make it much easier and faster to put together! I used Anna's FotoDaze Template for my 40th, but there are many in the store that would work!

Thank you so much. That looks like a good one. One more question--is adding text in these templates a problem? I have a graphic designer friend who says she never adds text in Photoshop because it can look strange. She suggests using InDesign for this, but I know that's beyond my capabilities. Any one experience any issues with text? Hopefully not! Thanks for your help!

Just don't make your text too small and you should be fine. I usually use anywhere from 11pt to 14 pt dependent upon the font. I've had several Shutterfly books printed with a lot of journaling and they all looked good to me

Hi!
Welcome to Designer Digitals! Sounds like you have a really fun project planned!

There are several complete book template-sets in the store that would make a terrific birthday book. Here are a couple of links, but there are even more in the store:

In addition to your template set, I recommend purchasing this tutorial to walk you through the process:

Some one some time ago did a terrific Shutterfly book and every page was numbered 1 to 30 (it was a 30 year old one by memory) and each page had a picture of that person with the birthday person (I think) and something they had written. It was terrific. I actually went looking for it some time ago and couldn't find it in the Shutterfly gallery.

Does anyone remember what I'm talking about? I think they used the Counting Trash alpha or something similar to number each page to 30.

It looked terrific. HOpefully someone may remember who it was.

That's exactly the one that I want to follow...or something similar. Love that one! I wish I knew enough to recognize exactly what templates were used for it. It's this one, right?

Those are her own page designs with DD products, not a template after all!
