Default Travel with laptop

We will be heading to sunny Mexico for 2 weeks this coming Thursday and I am wondering whether I should bring my 17 inch laptop with me. For one thing it would be great to be able to upload my pics, so I can keep shooting in raw, plus I could play a little occasionally, I can feel withdrawal already. Do you guys all take them on your travels and how do you transport? Do they make bags large enough for 17? Any advice?

We always travel with a laptop. I always carry my laptop bag on the plane with me. BTW my laptop has a 17" screen as well.

Uh-huh. What Goofy said up there. I travel with my 17" laptop in my carry-on and I take an EHD or two with me as well (the WD Passport size.) You can get a lot of photo-editing and digiscrapping done in flight!
Plus, on the "down" days when it's raining, it's relaxing to go sit out on your verandah and digiscrap the afternoon away. I usually download/backup my photos and play a little each night while everyone else is winding down for the evening. They are used to nodding off to the soft glow of my computer screen now ;-)

You crack me up Sarah!!! What kind of bag do they make that big? I had a smaller one for my 15 but nothing for this one. I better go look around a bit!

Take mine with me everywhere-even bought a special carry on bag that both my camera and laptop can fit into! DH bought me a small leather bag for my laptop-gives it enough protection, but not too bulky! Have a great vacation!

Anke, remember you will have to take it in and out of it's carrier when you go through security..a pain. I keep my 17 inch in a zippered pouch inside a leather shoulder carry on that I got at Staples on sale. I sling that on top of a wheeled case and both of them fit in the overhead so no gate check. I've got this down to a science since I do it every two weeks going back and forth between Bham and Bar Harbor. And we have traveled a lot to Mexico (meet there after not seeing each other for 20 years, engaged there...etc.) Depending on where you are staying security when you get there is an issue too. It is a terribly desirable toy we all have. Have a blast. Can't wait to see your pictures.

LOL, Randy! You've got the right idea!

I always take my Mac 17" laptop with me when I travel, Anke. When I fly, like the others, I keep it with me as carry on luggage.

I ordered my bag from Janine King Designs at Etsy. She makes one that fits 17" models.

I found a backpack at Amazon last night and ordered it for tomorrow. It looks really big with lots of pockets. Hopefully I will be able to fit both my camera and my laptop in there. I can't stand the idea of not being able to bring it along. Now Internet access is going to be a different issue, I don't think they have it in the rooms yet, just a central place where at least I will be able to log in and check this place. Sooooo, if you don't get a lot of comments etc from me you will know why

A laptop when you travel is now a must. Not only great for downloading pics (bring DVDs or EHD so you can make a back-up if you erase pics from memory card to make room) but great to keep up with news, google map things, e-mail friends and even post pics on your favourite picture sharing site for friends and family. Once you travel with your laptop, you'll never leave home without it. Absolutely keep it on the plane with you. And absolutely buy a really lovely shoulder bag with bright fun colours to make it a fun experience. Enjoy!
