Yikes!! Help!!!

I need some help!! First off, I use a MacBook and PSE 6.0 I am trying to create a layered template from a digital layout. When I do a selection of the photo (using the layer palette and then clicking on the thumbnail while clicking the command key) to get the marching ants...when I then go up to Edit for the pull down menu, the "Fill Selection" is not highlighted for me to use????

I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what I am doing wrong...anybody have any advice??? I would really appreciate any help you could offer!! this is the first time I am trying to create a template from a layout...

I don't use PSE, but try putting the 'marching ants' on a new layer then try to fill it.

I was able to find my answer!! What I needed to do was to simplify the layer because I had used an action on the photo!! Whew!! It's all good now!!
