Patricia? Parsnip peelings? Roasting? Elaborate please
I am really into this 365 thing. I actually missed a day on Monday, but will fill it in with a generic picture. Otherwise I have been taking brief notes every day about goings on and have been taking a pic that relates to the notes. So far so good! If for some reason you can't take a picture, so be it. We don't have to please anybody but ourselves. Take a picture of your kid or your dog or whatever. A year from now you will be happy to look at it anyway. I think it will be a great documentation and I really love that everybody is so supportive of everybody else. It will be such a great journey together!
Oh yeah, Kelly, thanks for the thread, your points are really well taken!!!!!

By yesterday's count, I took 277 pictures since the 1st. That isn't including a bunch of remotes and playing with the video portion a few times! So that will be 14,404 by the end of the year on this project alone. That's a lot of photos to sort and store!

Yes, Anke. I was supposed to be having a day off DD...but...So I was making roasted winter vegetables (parsnips included!), realized I'd not taken a photo yet, remembered Deanie's picture of her knives on the Flickr site and started snapping. Didn't get the focus right...too close or these eyes don't work. etc., the point....FUN. eating the yummies now with masaman sauce. no picture!!

Chris - that is too funny - I'd like to see which one of us can actually stick to just 365 photos a year!

Kelly thanks for starting this thread. It seems so easy to get caught up in the perfectionism and miss my actual purpose of documenting a year in the life of my family. I think on the days I miss I'll either add a photo from another day or some extra journaling.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's week 2 layouts!

Alrighty I'm joining in I've decided it might not be 365 days, but that's okay, I just want to document the year. I also get what you've been saying about trying to get a cohesive look, ack! I'm scared I'll start something and get sick of it.

But my question here is about journalling. For those that are also documenting by way of journalling, how are you including yourself? First person, third person? I started and realized I was using "Carol" as if someone else was writing it, and in the next sentence I wrote "we".

This is something I really struggle with. Would be interested to hear how you are journalling and mentioning yourself? As in your name or I ?

Thanks!! Once I nut this out, my first page will be uploaded.

That's a great question, Carol! It's hard to know whether text should read as a personal journal (ie in first person) or a family record (no "I", but perhaps "we"...?).

I wanted to do this, but day 9 and I'm already behind and having a panic! Can't find my battery charger for my camera so the day before yesterday I used Sara's camera – and yesterday I didn't take a photograph at all!!! Arrrghhhh – I really don't want to come over all OCD about this lol!! so I think I'm maybe going to have to have a session with our resident psychologist and then re-think how I'm going to approach this 365 day thing!
As far as the pitiful amount of journallng I have done so far: I have written it as a personal journal, my account of what was going on...one of my photographs is of medicine bottles so my journalling could read "Colin's illness lingers on, and I am soooo fed up of Man Flu..." I wouldn't actually write that you understand, but you get the drift of my journalling technique lol!!

Fiona, I took a photo of medicine bottles this morning too! I thought it would be useful cos Ryan is poorly and I'll most likely end up doing a page about it

HA! I took a picture of kleenex because of my sinus infection. (don't know if I'll use it but I took the picture.)

I almost climbed in the oven last night taking a photo of oven roast potatoes. I'm exaggerating, but I'm getting bad - as I opened the oven door, I had my camera ready and had to jump back because of the heat blast that jumped out at us (The camera and I)! Pathetic looking potatoes is all I was able to take pictures of!

I always write mine in first person (because - like Amy said - everyone knows it is me doing this!). I also make books for my children and I always write the journaling as if I am writing to them directly. i.e. "I was so proud of you today when you...."

I'm writing in the first person since I'm the author and it's really my perspective and my story.

I'm not doing this to document my life, but improve my photography skills. The bonus is I see my life as a result!

And THAT'S the beauty of it. People who look at this years from now will see things other than what you intended also. Example: You took a picture of your dryer to document the laundry that you hate to do. (I'm just assuming that everyone hates laundry since I do). 20+ years from now people are going to see that picture and remark about how "ancient" it is or "omgosh, it's white!"

Ok, Fiona, here's my view. I am taking photographs alot. Sometimes every day. Sometimes several one day and none the next. I am trying to make a page a week of my photos and whatever I have to say about them or where I am in life that week. If I fall behind I'll make up the story from what I remember and use photos I take when I'm doing it. To me this has to be fun and play or I will blow it off in a second. Really it's just a way to focus the camera and the digital art on what's happening for me. Course I'm using it for the interior focus I described in my first pages. That narrows it down. It's what I WANT to do.

Yeah, what Patty said! Fiona you can do it however you want. Some books will be 278 days and some will be 492 days (right, Katrina). You should play. . . no pressure though.

I did Project 365 every day of 2008 and loved it! I only had a handful of nights that I realized I needed to take a picture and most days, had too many to chose from. I'm on my 2nd year now!

I really wish I'd taken pics of my first laundry set up - a glass scrubbing board in a metal tub.

I've been scanning my father's slides. So many photos of birthday parties and Christmas. Very few of the everyday things. There are just a few incidental photos of things that were so significant in every-day ways like the kitchen sink or our artwork on the wall or our messy beds. Photos were so much more expensive then so it's so nice now to be able to photograph the little things (like medicine and potatoes)!!

Kind of like my video camea. . . all birthday and Christmas once we got past the learning to walk thing.

Chris! Seriously??? LOL

And Colorado Kid. . . you are proof that it won't kill you. The fact that you are doing it again tells me that it is so worth it and meaningful. See you in the gallery!

I LOVE this idea, everyone's LO's are awesome and I feel like I'm getting to know you all a little better by "peeking" into your everyday lives.

As for me, I just don't think I can take on such a big task. So I've decided to switch things up a bit and do the 12 Month challenge! Ha! I think I can manage doing a double LO featuring favorite pictures from every month.

Well, I'm gonna give it a try..........

You know, I didn't really want to get sucked into this when it was first announced and then I started seeing everyone's ideas and thought...well, maybe. Now I am so glad to be doing it. There are so many "events" that I scrap in our yearly scrapbooks (which I am also continuing to do) like birthday's, school events, swim meets, holidays, etc. But I never get to photograph and journal the everyday stuff. So this has started out to be a lot of fun. I always wanted to do a journal/diary and now I have found a way to do it with photographs and journaling that is fun. I am really glad I started this now!

i think Patricia really has a good point. Whatever we chose to do it has to work for us. I totally love taking notes every day, just 2 lines about what went on. At the end of the week they remind me of which photos to use for the days. I am really liking this, it does keep track of the little things in life, which is what we all want to remember later on. Whoever came up with this great idea, big hugs!!!! Now, the question is if I will be able to stick with it but the way I take pictures I shouldn't have a problem
