You don't absolutely need it, LOL! It's a cataloging program for Mac.
Perfect for organizing all those goodies

LOL, Stacy! That's what I was thinking! ;-) Now if it can organize my life as well as my digital supplies, I'd be set!

Thank you, Crissy, for pointing this out! Ever since I went Mac, I've been looking for something to replace my ACDSee software! And being free, well, can't beat that!!

The video tutorial was all about organizing and editing photos. But it works well if I just want to use it for supplies?

Does Picasa handle PNGS any better than it used to? That was my biggest hangup.

I *just* got a Mac and I'm experimenting with a separate Iphoto catalog for my scrap stuff.

Yes! You can see your PNG files now. It even shows PSD files too

The only thing I am trying to figure out is organizing the files it's scanning. I have everything in a specific folder and right now it's just scanning anything anywhere and not putting it where I want it.

It's scanning my computer now too. I really don't want all my pictures in it, just supplies. Maybe all the 'extra' stuff can be deleted when it's done???

You can right click on the folder you want deleted while it is still scanning. Just click on "remove from picasa"

I figured it out!! For anyone who wants to know. I guess the default view shows everything as a flat folder??
From "your left hand" in the top corner there is a button that says "set view to show folder tree structure"

can't you just tell it which file folders to scan? I'm downloading it now. Thank you, Crissy.

You go under tools>Folder manager. That should bring up the folders you want it to watch or scan once.
My problem is that I have one folder called scrapping supplies with thousands of subfolders! LOL!

And can't you keep the sub=folder structure?? Are you planning to tag files to sort them or what?

You can keep your sub-folder structure. You just click the "set view to show folder tree structure" from the button view in the top corner from your left hand.

OK, I I have figured out how to get my stuff into Picasa with the sub folder structure in place. Now, how are you all planning to use it to organize stuff?? Keywords, tags, Etc?

And to open a file in PS ... is there an easier way than right click ..open with..?

And are you thinking this is going to better than using Finder? I have tried Shoebox ( DO NOT ASK ME!!) and am on the Beta Focus Group for ACDSee for MAC when they start it in the spring.....Seriously missing the ease of ACDSee still after almost a year on a MAC.

would love it if this was an answer......

Oh yay! Even though I have a PC, I've made some of my MAC friends jealous when I've talked about it. A few months ago, I upgraded to Picasa 3 - wow, what a difference!

Yay - Stacy! I think you'll really like it!

I wrote a blog post about it a while back here and showed some of the cool collages you can make.
