Talking Camera envy

OK, I know Santa brought many of you new cameras for Christmas, you lucky lucky things (note to self: be a very good girl this year & cross fingers!).

Anyway, it made me curious to know if anyone is still using an 'antique' digital camera such as mine - a Canon Powershot G3 4 megapixels?! It seemed so high-tech in 2003 but now when I look in the gallery...admittedly a lot of you a far better photographers than I am anyway...oooh, I get camera-envy. Is there anyone still using an older camera, and a point-and-shoot at that? Might make me a little less envious (I know, I know, I shouldn't covert thy neighbours cameras!).

Mine is a Nikon D40 which is only 6mp, and I only use the lens that came with it. Even the camera on my mobile phone is 8mp, so I'm quite aware that my Nikon isn't the best LOL!

I'd love a new one, but for now I'm happy with it. It does what it needs to do

I don't even have a DSLR (although that is going to be rectified this year !!!! ) I'm using a digital Fujifilm, have no idea of the mp.

I had a point and shoot Fuji (ZLR) until a few weeks ago. I'd say if you feel like you've outgrown your camera, that's the telling factor. 4 MP won't enlarge to 12X12 flawlessly, though it will do well enough; so it's up to you! There are so many great P&S's out there today anyway. My dad just got a 12X zoom 10 MP Canon for $200.

A friend of mine who is an amateur photographer told me that we will always want better and better equipment---so I think there is envy at every level!

Although I have a Nikon D50 with multiple lens which I have not outgrown yet, I was getting frustrated at missing all of the photo opportunities when I wasn't carrying my "big" camera. So, my dh bought me a Canon PowerShot A470 for Christmas that I can keep in my purse. I haven't printed any of the photos yet to see how they look, but it is sure better than trying to use my iPhone!

Still have (and can't find an excuse to replace) my DSLR Nikon D70s. It is 6 mp, and I have camera envy over the new ones that have true 35mm format and 12 mp. But, I can't justify the expense of a newer, bigger, always wanting more, camera. ;-) (Except, I do keep saying if I did get a new one, my dd with little children could have my current one. . . ) LOL

The whole missing out because I don't carry my camera with me has occurred to me more than once, and I do give serious thought to getting a point and shoot for my purse. I do carry my flip video and love being able to pop that out, but a P&S would be so much better. I do take my camera to events at work and send them in to the regional paper (I am on the "photo posse") but it would be so cool to take pics of everyday stuff to send in as well. (Sarah's dad's camera sounds like an awesome deal!)

I have two cameras which are both point and shoot. My big one is an hp photosmart 940 and is a more advanced p & s so I can play some with manual although not nearly as much as with a dslr and it is 5 mp. My small one is a fuji finepix z20 and I think it has 8 mp. I take it with me everywhere I go so I can at least get some photos if the mood strikes me. It takes excellent photos both indoors and out and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a purse camera. It runs around 138.00 at walmart right now. I do plan to get a dslr this year as it is something I have been wanting for a long time. I recommend searching on the internet if you are in the market for one. You can find some amazing deals there.

Thanks everyone for your comments, I'm feeling a bit better that I'm not the only one! It's funny to think that mobile phones can take higher res shots than my camera. Interesting point you make Sarah about enlarging to 12x12. Now that you say that, I had noticed, just thought the photo wasn't focused. Well, later this year my dh has a Significant Birthday coming up, and he's talking about getting a DSLR (I've been reading all the posts about Nikon v Sony v Canon to find out as much as I can). However you've all reminded me that it's good to have a point-and-shoot handy on some occasions, and I loved your comment MaryAnn! This'll do for now .

I have a Canon 50d but I also have the smaller PS Canon Powershot. I can't lung the big one everywhere so the PS does quite a bit of work for me = )

My camera is a point and shoot although the MP is up around 10. My son (17) on the other hand gives me camera envy until I try to use it. I get so frustrated I am very happy to go back to my Kodak.
