Default Hello & Laptop Question

Hello all~ Just wanted to introduce myself as I am a new user to this site. I have been scrapbooking digitally for only a few months now.

I want a laptop, but am not sure which might be the best for scrapbooking. I'm using PSE 5.0 currently.

Any suggestions?

First, welcome to DD! I hope you find a home here and enjoy the company of a lot of incredible people who are here to help.

There's no single "best" laptop, but you will find that many of us are partial to Apple. I am a recent convert. I have a MacBook Pro, and I love it. In fact, today, I had to do some work on my husband's Sony Vaio, and I realized how quickly I've become spoiled on the Apple. Cassie, our resident Apple expert, has posted many times on the subject, and I'm sure she'll be chiming in with detail.

Welcome, and we hope to see you around!

I would second the Mac advice; though I don't have one, I am a huge fan. I went to buy a new laptop and found that you just can't get great resolution anymore; I have an old refurbished Dell from a friend that has 1680 X 1050. Most new ones are 1280 X 800 or just a little better. I rebuilt this one and am holding out for a Mac someday. Welcome, and this is just my two cents!

hello, and welcome to DD!!

I agree about the Macbook Pro, however, because some of my husband's software for work would not be compatible, nor could we afford to replace the expensive software, we spent alot of time looking and eneded up choosing a Dell Inspiron - 1720 with a 19" wide screen monitor. We are very happy - love it!!

If you do try a MacBook, I think Adobe will change your PSE to the Mac version for free if you destroy your previous copy. I can second the Mac also! Welcome to DD!

I just spend a good deal of time researching laptops; glad to share!
Consumer Reports (and many other sites) give Macs the top rating when it comes to service and support, but I just couldn't afford the extra bucks, and I have other software that requires a PC.
The next supposedly reliable machine turned out to be Lenovo, and I read a lot of positive reviews aound the web on their Thinkpad line.
For me, the next most important thing was lots of RAM and a big hard drive.
I ended up getting a Lenovo Thinkpad SL 400 with 3G of RAM and a 320G hard drive. I also upgraded to a faster processor. I went with the 14" monitor because I carry my computer around a lot, and I wanted a compromise between light weight and big enough to see the details.
It's on the way, and I just can't wait!!!
I'll let you know what I think.
My first impression of Lenovo is already good. It wasn't supposed to ship until the 30th, but according to UPS tracking, it will be in my hands on Monday.

Whatever you get, welcome to DD and enjoy digiscrapping!

Welcome to DD cmmabel I just recently got a new laptop (HP) & love it. My only advice is to get the most storage you can afford. Scrapbook pages, digital supplies & photos can take up lots of room so its best to have lots of storage!

Welcome to DD! It's great to have you with us!
I have a Dell laptop and couldn't be happier with it. I've found their customer service/support to be top notch. This is my 3rd Dell and I'll probably buy another one the next time I upgrade.

I don't know what I would recomend but I do second scrapbirds comment. I have a laptop that only has a maxium of 3g of ram and 1.6 gigaherz processor, therefore I cannot run any newer versions of photoshop on my computer. I actually had to downgrade to PSE 4 because my photoshop elements 6 kept freezing on me. I would look at the requirements of the programs you use most often and go with at least that in your laptop.

That saying I love my pink dell laptop for everything else. Everything else runs fine on it just not photoshop.

I'm a MAC lover too! So I highly recommend them. I do strongly agree with the need for as much space as you can get!

I got my new Lenovo ThinkPad SL 400 yesterday and I LOVE it!! It's trim and sturdy and just the right size. I love the matt screen, it has tons of ports, and in spite of everything I had heard about Vista, I'm already liking it a lot. It feels great to type on and everything I have loaded has gone smooth as butter! 3G of RAM, 320G hard drive, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P processor, and a 3-yr warranty for just under $1000!!
I have read many positive reviews of this laptop, and so far I agree with them.
Can you tell I am excited?

Thanks all for your suggestions. I ended up with an HP dv7-1240us w/4G (expandableto 8G) & a 17" monitor. So far I love it! It was the best value for the amount of money I had available to spend.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1705 and I have had no problems with it. I love it...someday I'll look into a Mac, but for now, this is working great.

Welcome to DD!

I have a MacBook Pro and LOVE it, but before that I always had Dell and loved them, too...though not as much as my Mac!

I'm on my second Acer and have been very happy. Just get a dual core processor and as much memory as you can afford.
