I have a wide format printer and that works just great.
However, lately I've been sending out my printing to Scrapbooks to Share. Their prices are sooo reasonable, and I've been very pleased with their printing on cardstock.

Thanks for the input. I've printed my a few pages in 8x8 (especially since I'm new to digital scrapbooking and wanted to make sure what I was making looked ok before I got too carried away) but my scrapbooks are 12x12. I skip around A LOT instead so I keep everything 12x12. I just keep adding to my kids' books instead of making individual event or theme scrapbooks.

Another fan of the 8x8 size.
Some people create in 12 x 12 and then reduce to 8x8 so everything stays proportional. I create in 8x8 so I almost always make my elements (like staples, brads, etc.) a bit smaller so they don't look too big in proportion to the rest of the page. I print out all my layouts on my HP Photosmart printer using HP photo paper and I love the quality of the prints. I love getting the instant results! Merrilee

I am new to digital scrapbooking. I've been doing it 1 week and I'm totally addicted! I created my layouts using CS2 in 12x12 format. How do I resize to 8x8? I tried doing it by changing the canvas size and a lot of the layout was lost. Was I doing something wrong? Please help!

Try changing the "Image Size" rather than the "Canvas Size." And don't forget to keep your layout at a high resolution for best results!
Hope that helps... Dinah |

Has anyone tried printing with Heritage Makers? I am considering becoming a consultant with them but am still undecided. They print all sizes and shapes and create a hard-bound library quality book for you. They are nice heirlooms! Just wondering if you all had an opinion on them since I am still a bit of a rookie in the digi-scrapping world. They are also coming out with a digital scrapbooking program so you can upload your photos and do some layouts and get them printed right from their publishing software.
Their pricing is $89 for a 12 x 12 hard bound book fully customized - that includes 20 full color pages but it is expandable up to 78 I think. Is that alot compared to other printing services? Thanks, Josie B.

Sarah, I print most at home, too, but could only find 13x19 (or is it 13x17?) paper... so I'm wasting paper and having a hard time cutting it in my 12" trimmer! Which is one of the reasons I'm going to try an online service (whitehouse or scrapbooks to share)...
...we'll see!

I use the Epson 12x12 scrapbook photo paper to print my layouts. It's cardstock weight, matte finish and double-sided. They sell it at Best Buy, etc. There is an online store called Atlex that sells it for a discount and it's always available at epson.com. I almost always have a 10% off coupon at epson.com. Let me know if anyone needs the coupon code.
Hope this helps. Sara |

Sarah... thank you! And, I'd LOVE the coupon code. When I bought the 13x17/19 (whatever!) paper, I couldn't find 12x12, so your info is so very helpful! THANK YOU!

I burn them on a cd and take them to Costco 1 hour photo. They charge $3.00 to print each page. I have them printed on matte finish paper, not glossy. They do a great job!

Has anyone actually created their layout in 8x8, rather than creating in 12x12 and then reducing?
By this I mean - reduce the size of the papers to 8x8, but leaving the brads and eyelets and ribbons etc at real size. Coz when we scrap in 12x12 and the reduce to 8x8 I guess it is less realistic - the embellishments would end up smaller that they would in real life? Just wondering..... |

Kylie, I had trouble "visualizing" the reduction at first, too. But, after a number of gals here said "Yes, create in 12x12, reduce to 8x8 and then print... it's fine", I took them up and did it. And, yes... they were right!
The reduced layouts I printed were just fine and totally readable. Although, personally... I prefer just designing in 8x8 for my smaller books. Just my personal preference! ![]() P.S. Thanks for the code, Sara!

Just wanted to share that for my very first printing job (I'm still new at this), I took my 12x12 pages to Kinkos/FedEx, and they looked great on luster paper but the cost was outrageous - they charged a setup fee for every page!! My Canon printer does great 8x8 printing jobs for a fraction of the cost, and I'm leaning towards using mpix.com for a calendar project I'm working on.
Thanks to everyone's input here I'm learning by leaps and bounds! You guys are awesome!

Thanks for the link to Scrapbooks to share Jodi. It sounds really reasonable and you don't have to leave your house. I normally use Sam's club. I put my 8x8 layouts on a blank 8x10 page and then simply cut off the white space when I get them back. They chare about $1.55 per page and if you do it online you can go to their store and pick them up in just a couple of hours.

Hi All, I thought I would throw my printing method into the mix. I design and print 12x12's. I have printed just about all of my pages from www.whcc.com they are amazing - they will give you a bunch of 8x10s free to test their service, they are fast (2 day free shipping), and they are inexpensive. I can't say enough good things. I have also done a bunch of larger printing (never 12x12) at www.mpix.com and they are also very good although a bit more expensive.
