And here I am, thinking "who is hiatus? Never heard of her. Must be a really old CT".

I saw this thread bumped and thought someone might have actually done a CT Spotlight on Hiatus. She must be a fascinating person---with a name like that!

This is a really long aside, but one of my favorite authors, Ferrol Sams, told a story about his days in the service in WWII. He and some guys in his unit made up a fake soldier, Daniel P. Farbecker, and whenever something went wrong, they blamed it on him. He was never caught. He was always one step ahead of authority figures. All the descriptions of him were vague; tall, short, fat, thin, blond, dark hair . . . everyone always knew where he was, but it was always "over there," "over that way," or "he's around somewhere."

When we were in Illinois, we were members of a fast-growing church and we often confused or lost track of new members. We made up a couple, "Steve and Teresa Hanyik," (pronounced HAHN-yak) and that's how we referred to people we didn't know in the church. We'd have conversations about them, talk about their kids, and generally embarrass people who thought they were supposed to know who these people were. We could carry on entire conversations about the Hanyiks and people would nod and agree, as if they knew exactly what we were talking about.

So "Hiatus" would be a great fill-in, she's that lady everyone sees around but no one remembers. Maybe someone could interview her so we can figure out who she really is.

LOL, Sarah!
Several years ago we had a Middle School principal who wanted each grade to select dozens of kids each month for "students of the month". By the end of the year, every kid in the school would have won it at least once. Kind of takes the feeling of being honored and rewarded out of it, doesn't it?
So the 7th grade teachers invented a kid one month, named Willie Dorit. The office thought he was a new kid and sent the student council welcome committee to find him! The kids in my classes even got into it, making up stuff about him! It was fun for a while.
