Simply Inspired Contest No. 14
Inspiration : Poster Deadline : August 11, 2009 It’s time for another Simply Inspired Contest!!! For our inspiration this week, we're using a poster I stumbled upon. At first glance it didn't seem like anything special. When I took a closer look, however, I knew I found our next Simply Inspired challenge! Your mission this week is to create a layout based on this poster: ![]() Odd choice? Perhaps. But I love how the understated design lets the humor simply shine. Don't you? Are you still asking yourself, "How in the world am I supposed to create a layout based on THIS?" Here are a few thoughts to get you started. Try pulling inspiration from the concept of humor and document a funny story or a joke your child told you. Use the parchment style background as an inspiration point. Take your key from the lovely animals and create a layout using a silhoutte. Or run with the idea of using scroll work on your next page. Just remember. This isn't about trying to duplicate the poster. It's about pulling one piece of inspiration from the design (no matter how small) and using it to spark your own creativity and designing something uniquely yours! Don’t forget to upload to the Simply Inspired gallery on or before August 11, 2009 to be in the running for a $10 gift certificate to the Designer Digitals store!!! I can't wait to see how you are simply inspired! ![]() The winning entry is voted on and determined by Designer Digitals and it's creative team. While everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in every Simply Inspired contest, individuals are eligible to win once in a six month time frame.

LOL about your nightmares, mum2gnt! And GOOD FOR YOU on noticing the symbols in the corners!!! You could take that concept and create a layout that has a hidden element...a hidden shape, a hidden name, a hidden meaning, or even hidden journaling (yes, hidden journaling CAN be done on digital layouts!). OR you could create a layout about what you just wrote... "people who don't scrap who see our layouts have absolutely no idea how much work goes into them!" Take whatever speaks to you from the piece and scrap it! See? This challenge is WAY easier than you think! lol.
Anyone else need a little kick outside their box? Just let me know! lol.

Ooh, interesting poster. Will have a think, sounds like there's lots of directions we could take this.

This is the first time I participated in a challenge at Designer Digitals. When I saw the poster my mind went to the animals and I thought about my daughter's new dog. She had just sent me a bunch of photos so I thought about putting them in the 3x3 grid format.

|
||||
|
Perfect, Canay! I was wondering if anyone would pick up on the 3 x 3 grid hidden in there! Good eye! So glad you jumped in and joined the challenge! Way to go!

okay, well was going to use my daughter instead of animals.. showing her growing up, sitting up, crawling, standing, etc.. but it is hard to extract the background and color her black.. you can see all the rough edges.. need to figure out an easier way to do that OR just invest in PS!! I use PSE now..

how do you go about entering a challenge?

Here's one way I've done hidden journaling:
In Photoshop, I typed out my private journaling inside a book element, then I digitally paperclipped my photos on top so just a portion of the journaling was visable. I printed this image for my scrapbook album. Next I hide the photo layers in my layers palette so all the journaling was visable and printed the image again. I slipped this page BEHIND the original layout in my daughter's album. There you have it...hidden journaling. If you have a copy of the Oct/Nov 08 issue of Digital Scrapbooking magazine, you can see what I'm talking about on pg 79. I don't know if I can legally post the images here. Can anyone else think of other ways to create hidden journaling?

Oooo oooo me me me!!! *JUMPING UP AND DOWN WITH HAND IN THE AIR AT THE BACK OF THE CLASS*! Here is a very cunning way of doing hidden journaling......Probably more for the advanced person in Photoshop. Write your message as long as you like but a font in CAPITALS would work particularly well. And Bold I think might just do the trick. Underlined would be going over the top. Now, here's the clever bit.....Hit the colour picker tool and carefully match the background paper and VOILA! Hidden journaling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL couldn't resist that!
But seriously, any font, any way you like and background colour picked but then shaded a couple of bits or lightened a couple of bits and it would be hard for many to read online say, but when you print it, it should be almost visable??????? Does that count? Or can you write a short message in say white against a white background and then fx drop shadows? Not really a hidden message I guess! You've got me thinking now......! Anyway, I've done my layout. Probably looks nothing like that great poster (no nightmares had BTW!) I'll post it seperately as I haven't re-sized it or even uploaded it! Twas a great challenge Deena. thanks so much. Suzie |

So here's my take on the challenge. I put a pea in each corner as the poster has a nuclear symbol in each corner. I lied about the date the journaling was done too!!!! Sounded better to do it on the anniversary of her death! Is that bad?!!! I've decided to do a memory book for me and this is a starter!
Anyway, here it is: Hopefully it will upload the image properly this time!!! If not, here's the link thanks again Deena. Suzie |

Oh my dear Suzie girl, you have no idea how happy that statement made me! Lol! Completely love your layout and the scores of memories you managed to document. And I adore your idea of creating an entire album. Way to go!

Hey, Suzie! Check out Cassie's thread on Linking to Layouts with a Thumbnail. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can get it to work.
![]() Great to have you, Shadowsmom! Looking forward to seeing your layout!
