This week’s tip is the second in our new series on digital techniques with text in Photoshop and Elements. This week you’ll see how to create titles with patterned paper.
Begin by opening a new document in Photoshop or Elements.
Open a digital paper of your choice.
Get the Horizontal Type Mask tool. This tool shares a space on the toolbar with the Type tool. Simply click and hold the Type tool to reveal the hidden tools beneath it.
Choose a font in the Options Bar across the top of the editing window. Choose a large font size, then click on the patterned paper.
Type a word, then click and hold to position the text on the portion of the paper you’d like to use. When you are happy with the placement, let go and marching ants will surround your text.
Press V on the keyboard to get the Move tool, then position the cursor inside one of the letters. Click and drag it to your new document.
Use the Move tool to drag the cut-out title into position for a title that looks like it was made with die-cuts!
