Is anyone else having trouble submitting through Simple Scrapbook's site? I tried two separate times and they came back as undeliverable. I know SS recently switched email servers and was wondering if everyone was having trouble or just me! ???

Has anyone else tried submitting yet?

I never "save for web"- I think that shrinks the color gamut to the 256 web-safe colors. I flatten, resize to about 4 inches on the longer side, at 72 dpi. Then save as a JPG, adjusting slider to get it below 85. Some part of the process seems to add a few kb, so if it's any higher than 85 it ends up over 100. Good news is, I believe the sub standards for the new magazine permit files to be just under 500k- way easier to get a quality reduction with that much room.
Hope this is helpful. |

Jen, thanks for that info... I never "save for web" either, although I have to admit it was more because I couldn't quite figure it all out (LOL) but I found the quality to be better just flattening and resizing. But, how cool that now the file size can be closer to 500... wowee! That makes it "easy"!

Thanks for posting this reminder Jen.
I have never submitted a layout to a magazine, but think I may do so for this one. The comments for this post are enlightening. I will definitely use the methods for saving as a jpg. when sending my page. Thanks to everyone who posted suggestions and questions here.

Well, I must be dense. I could not get my files small enough with your suggestions. I had to ultimately use "Save for Web" after flattening, changing to 6x6" @72 dpi, converting to the sRGB color profile, and embedding the profile in the "save for web" dialog box by checking the "ICC" box. This seemed to keep my colors pretty true, and it let me get it under 100k with high or very high compression values.
I just submitted them, and I got 2 sent back "Message Rejected Due to Content Restrictions." There was nothing different about these two layouts. The attached files were under 100K. Any suggestions? Should I just try to resubmit them?

Jen, I submitted layouts in DSM. It says it was sent. Should I be receiving an email that they got it? Or its all good? But then a few hours later I got an email from SS. It says;
Just a reminder . . . we’d love to see your digital layouts for possible publication in the August/September issue of our new magazine, Digital Scrapbooking. Click here to check out our calls for submissions and then send us your work using our online form by Thursday, March 1. Please note: We recently transferred our email accounts and ask that you resend any layouts submitted before Saturday, February 24. Sorry for any inconvenience! Should I just send it again over in SS? Or I'm all good? Thanks! I just want them to see some of my layouts..LOL |
