I am also a bit of an eclectic I think - and my pages do develop by themselves. It usually depends on the photos - what "they" call for and what I feel like doing. It being graphic, monochrome, colorful, whimsical or "scrapbooky".
I like the element of surprise- and I am actually a fond believer in books that reflect this diversity. I don't think I could make a book that matched even if I tried.
But even so, I do think that I put certain touches to my pages that are recognizable to others from a distance.
