Default a friend in need

I just had a friend email me the follow any thoughts would be appreciated!:

"My wife is freaking out about some changes she made to some photos in photoshop. She took her little sister's senior pics over the weekend and has been editing them all afternoon/evening. She was horrified to see the images look over-sharpened in photoshop viewer, quicktime, etc. even though they look fine in regular photoshop. She is afraid she has ruined them and will not be able to restore to original and the originals are already deleted. Interestingly, they seem to look fine out of the printer."

I told him that it might be that her photoshop screen settings are set to viewing photos while her monitor (while viewing photo with other softwares) is set up for something else - like factory settings. I also said to always backup a copy before editing!

TIA for any info!
I have a photo if you want/need to see it.
