Definitely a lens issue.
I have Nikon D90 and think it is perfect for my needs.
I read once that Canons digital cameras are known to sharpen in-camera just a tad more than Nikon - so that Nikon's photos come out a tiny bit softer than Canon's. It is a personal preference thing.
