I agree with Katrina - lots of light! late morning and late afternoon sun seems to produce the best photos in my opinion.. the sun isn't too bright and the shadows come out awesome!
I am in the photo editing process too; I just bought CS4 and may have to get LR - but will definately need to take classes! I have had CS4 for about a mont and I am still using PSE - I am afraid to take the plunge!!
