My Story AAM Heritage Project

My Year | My Story Heritage Scrapbook Album

Each of our stories is different. We all have similar facts in the way we all have had homes we’ve lived in, schools we’ve attended and families we’ve grown up in. Those similar facts are the basis for the My Story Project. But there are details too. Details about favorite teachers, classmates, special memories we’ve made along the way and those stories need to be told too. I think about what I would like to know about my grandparents and never got to learn from them. And it does feel like this book could never end but maybe it will turn into a few volumes, eh? The early years, the teen years, college, young adult and your own family life. It all depends on the memories you have.

It depends on the memories you have, not the photos you have. Keep that in mind. These days you can find so many images to represent the story you have to tell. I didn’t have photos of each of the homes I lived in as a child, but Google Earth is there to help. Simply typed in the address and there they were. Not high resolution, print into a canvas quality but enough to help add a visual to my stories.

New Details Templates have been added to the story and will continue to be released over the year. These pages will help tell the stories in between and when you have more to say and nicely coordinate with the main series of templates.

The unifying elements of this album with be the background color, simple format with typed word strips and the timelines down each side. I felt it was very important to give this project a sense of time so each page has timelines with editable text paths and a marker that you can slide up and down as needed. And I encourage you to include scans of ephemera from your own life. Think certificates, diplomas, tickets [the good and the bad ;)] and other things you’ve hung on to with meaning in your life.
