Universal Children’s Day: One Theme, Three Scrappers

Hi, it’s Debi here for this week’s “Three Scrappers: One Theme” challenge and we’re CELEBRATING CHILDREN! All ages, all sizes… your kids, your friend’s kids, nieces, nephews, the kids down the street… or even your husband who’s just a ‘big kid’ at heart… let’s celebrate children everywhere and anywhere! I have discovered that Universal Children’s Day takes place annually on November 20th in the U.S. According to Wikipedia, Universal Children’s Day was first proclaimed by the United Nations’ General Assembly in 1954. It was established to encourage all countries to institute a day “…to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children…” and “…to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world’s children. It was also chosen as the day to celebrate childhood.” And today, Universal (or World) Children’s Day is celebrated in more than 100 countries. While it’s true that not all of those 100+ countries celebrate in November (see below), here at DD, we’re all going to celebrate the children in our lives this month!

If you have a minute (more like hours!), peruse the store and you will find hundreds of products celebrating children… search for children (duh), baby, teen, park, etc. and you’ll be amazed by the variety of goodies! Here are a few to start you off… and remember, these will be ON SALE in the DD store this week, too!

Jenelle’s layout below just exudes fun, doesn’t it? The photo of Nick flying over the bar makes me smile… ah, the simple joys of childhood and the exuberance of youth! The colors and delightful elements that Jenelle used on this layout just add to the fun! And, doesn’t the ‘sunburst’ of red papers just scream “go!” to you?

Like Jenelle, Bailey chose a similar color palette of bright and cheery colors, but she added a few strips of black to ground the layout and add some contrast… I love that! She only added a few cute little elements to help frame her photo. And, wow… honestly, who could resist that cute smiling face?

Mollie chose a different direction with her layout… a quiet celebration of love for both her daughter and her granddaughter. Isn’t the photo wonderful? Don’t you just love those little fingers? I especially love the warm, inviting color palette of her layout and the cute elements she chose. Who doesn’t love sharing a storybook with a young child? Such a special moment and Mollie has captured this one so beautifully!
