Hi everyone! This is Nancy with another installment of the Template Mash-Up Challenge. We’re into our second month, choosing two templates to play with instead of just one and I think everyone who has played along agrees that it is surprisingly easy and fun! So if you’ve been on the fence about giving this a try, I hope we can inspire you this week to give it a whirl! I noticed we’ve been choosing templates with a lot of different elements on them for you to play with, so I thought this time, it might be fun to mash a graphic look, which is typically unadorned and change it up with some embellishments. I chose Ali Edwards Layered Template No. 08 and Layer Works No. 288 .
Let’s take a look at how members of the Creative Team were inspired to mix these two.
First, we have Amy’s, (Amy L) approach to this challenge.
Amy used the divided background from Ali’s template, as well as the band, before bringing over select elements from the Layer Works template to complete her page. I love the beautiful shades of robin’s egg blue she used to compliment the golds from the Layer Works template and how she blended the burlap paper to include hints of pattern from the Chandra Kit paper, uniting the two sides. This is such a pretty page, thank you, Amy!
In addition to the two templates, Amy used: Messy Life Lines Brushes and Stamps Vol. 02, For The Love of Brushes and Stamps, Evidence Paper Collection, Chandra Kit, On The Edge Flourishes No. 12 Brushes and Stamps, Folia Scrapbooking Kit, Maybe Not Kit, Carte Post Kit, Edge Overlays No. 01, Words + Pictures: Winter Paper Pack, Stamped Stitches No. 02 Brushes and Stamps, Haunted Woodlands Kit, Yonder Kit, Distressed Lines and Word Art Brushes and Stamps.
Next we have another very pretty page by Steph (Steph), also featuring hits of that wonderful robin’s egg blue. I had to giggle when I opened these pages, because neither lady would have known what the other was creating until they uploaded their own. It really is true that great minds think alike!
Steph kept the band, (but shortened it) and part of the title work from Ali’s template, before bringing in elements from the Layer Works template and recoloring some of them in order to finish off her page. I love the crisp white mat under the chevron piece that serves as a band as well as the touches of green she added. That is an awesome piece of craft paper she used for her background too. I want to add that one to my own wish list! This is such a lovely page, thank you, Steph!
In addition to the featured templates, Steph used: Naturally Krafty No. 14 Paper Pack and Just Chevrons Paper Pack No. 01.
Lastly, here is my (NancyBeck) take on mashing the two templates.
I shrunk Ali’s template and used it as a page within a page, before bringing in elements from the Layer Works template. I was able to use the title treatment, decorative grid and journaling box from the graphic template too, because they suited my story, but you can clearly see how they could have just as easily become homes for whatever would compliment the story you want to tell.
In addition to the templates, I used: Folia Scrapbooking Collection, Taped Together No. 05, Wood Veneer Geometrics, Rimmed Framers, Frame Hangers No. 01, and Loosely Labeled Dates No. 04.
So that’s it for this week, we hope we’ve inspired you to play along. Please post your pages in the Template Challenge Gallery. Don’t forget these two templates will be on sale at 30% off on Thursday.
