Template Challenge: Pocket Card Quilting

While I have never participated in Project Life, I have always loved the amazing pages that people create, especially those using pocket cards. What’s not to love about pocket cards? I love finding everyday scrapping designs that use pocket cards. So this time around, I looked for a template design which would allow me to slip in a pocket card or two. This Layer Works template by Kayleigh has a grid as a base which I thought might work.

The masks for patterned paper are a little shorter than a standard pocket card, but clipping a card to the mask does work, especially with the pocket card templates I chose to work with. Sometimes my journaling is long and detailed, but usually it takes the form of a few succinct phrases. These pocket card templates were perfect for my purpose.

For this page, I added patterned paper and journaling to two pocket cards, flattened them and then clipped them to two of the patterned paper masks in the template. I deleted some elements, swapped others and moved them around. I used only the hanging tag photo frame in this layout.

Here in Perth, we are coming to the end of our Summer school holidays. I have been spending the last few weeks catching up on my long neglected quilting projects. I’ve managed to finish three quilt tops and have started a new scrappy quilt project – trying to use up some of my fabric scraps. In the process, I started thinking about Katie’s quilted pocket cards, and decided to use the same template on a different layout.

Again, I added all the patterned paper to the pocket cards first (Katie’s Monthly Memories Paper Packs are just brilliant for this idea), and then flattened them before clipping to the masks in the template. I used the vintage photo frame this time, and a different selection of elements from the template. My two layouts are quite similar, but as they’re going into different yearly albums, I’m ok with that!

Layer Works No. 933 and both of these pocket car template packs will be on sale this week, so I hope you’ll be able to design one or two pretty pocket cards to use in the template. You could use a card from either pack, or you could combine the journaling strips with one of the patchwork cards.

Please post your page in the Template Challenge Gallery, and don’t forget to add your 100% Designer Digital page to the January Challenge Participation Thread in the forums in order to earn shopping rewards!
