Template Challenge: Large and in Charge

One of the first things I examine in a template is the number of spaces for photos and their relationship to each other. Lynn Grieveson’s Scrap Express No. 108 has lots of possibilities. You could use two small photos and place patterned paper in the background, or you could follow the Creative Team’s lead and use that large space for a commanding photo. In this case, I guess creative minds run in the same channels.

LT998573XPaula (PaulaSG) used the template to document a recent trip with her husband to Las Vegas, during which they took a very cool helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. She placed a dramatic photo of the Grand Canyon itself in the large background space and used the smaller spaces for more detailed shots of herself and her husband. The addition of the banner at the top lends a festive air to her page.

Debi (beehive50) claims she was way out of her comfort zone on this page, but I think she used the template brilliantly. She recorded her daughter’s last club soccer match with a large photo of her daughter and her teammates in their last huddle. She deleted the top photo space to include the insignia of the soccer club and used the lower photo space for her great title work. I think Pattie’s new Kick in the Grass kit came along at just the right time!

I also used the large background space for pictures – a couple of New York City skyscrapers. I turned the shots to black and white and blended them into some gray paper because I wanted a sort of industrial feel and because I didn’t want them to overshadow (ha ha, get it?) the pictures of the colorful tulips in the smaller spaces. I liked the juxtaposition of the huge buildings and the delicate blooms, and this template showcased that concept beautifully.

Lynn’s template is a creative explosion waiting to happen. What will you do with the spaces on it? We’re taking a summer break from the coupon code prize for the Template Challenge, but it will be back in the fall. In the meantime, I hope you’ll pick up this template for 30% off in the store today and post your completed page in the Template Challenge Gallery. I’m looking forward to seeing your layout.
