Saturday Scraplift: Making Space in Your Design

I have to admit a special fondness for the 30 Minute Masterpiece (30MM). It’s a challenge here at DD that really gets the adrenalin flowing. And I’m always amazed at the wonderful pages it produces. The page I chose for this week’s Saturday Scraplift was designed by Karen (karenc) for a recent 30MM. One of the rules was to divide your page in some way, and I really liked how Karen created space on her page to house her photos and journaling. I also thought her combination of patterned papers was pure genius. This is how the Creative Team lifted Karen’s great page.

hiking-copy[1] Amy (mymalloryboys) used some recent photos of her adorable daughter on her page, employing the large space at the bottom for her focal shot of sweet Betty May. The light is fantastic in that picture! In the space above, she included her journaling and an additional photo. Amy’s page has such a great tactile quality with lots of dimension and different textures.

One of our newest Creative Team members, Heather (schnerbear) also used sweet shots of her daughter celebrating a birthday with a special treat. I love how she filled the small frames with bits of patterned paper and then layered her photos on top. The space above the photos is perfect for her title and journaling, and she grounded her design with the chevron brushwork.

I don’t have a cute daughter to scrap, so I used pictures of some good ol’ boys during an impromptu jam session. I ran some actions on my photos to enhance the vintage look and chose patterned papers that suggested days gone by – plus I can never resist a piece of plaid paper!

I think you’ll love lifting Karen’s page because it’s so versatile. Remember to post your page in the Saturday Scraplift Challenge Gallery as well as the May Challenge Participation Sign-in thread in the forum. Happy scrapping!
