One thing I love about scrapbooking is learning more about design in the process of preserving our family’s memories. Principles of design are concrete ideas that I can wrap my head around to improve the look of my layouts. The strong design in Agnieszka’s (Arte Banale) page was what initially drew me to it, and I also loved her use of color with the nearly black and white photo. I really like the way the primarily horizontal elements ground her photo while the cluster in the upper right balances the page. Three of our Creative Team members used Agnieszka’s page for inspiration and produced their own wonderful interpretations.
Myra (Myra) used a large photo of her budding-photographer son and drew attention to it by framing it with arrow elements, a band of color, and an oversize title. Her accents echo the colors present in her photo, another sure fire design tip.
I love the way Aino’s (Aino) page about her son’s field trip uses notebook paper as a background and a doodled border around the edges to underscore the school theme. Her layering and clustering are terrific, and the jaunty tilt of her page adds energy to her design.

Sam (sam ellis) used another tried and true design technique in scrapping about her grandson’s soccer practices: repetition with variety. I love the circles that suggest the soccer ball. She’s incorporated them into the background, with the epoxies by the photo, and in the corner embellishment.
