There are lots of ways to call attention to various elements on your scrapbook page, and Jeannie (jean2) has done a wonderful job of that on this page created for a recent color challenge. Jeannie’s photography is stellar and calls attention to itself, but notice how effectively she used spot coloring to highlight the ladybug on the edge of the flower petal. In addition, the whimsical title work, brightly colored chevrons, and stitching lead the viewer’s eye to the photo. I also like how Jeannie aligned the chevrons with the ladybug and grounded her design with the multi-colored brushwork. There’s just so much to love about this page!
Jeannie’s design works well for a photo you want to spotlight, and I loved this photo of the evening sky that I took while I was watching my grandchildren at their riding lessons. I drew the colors of my page from the shades of the sky and used Jeannie’s technique with the brushwork to create a diagonal flow across the page. When I showed the page to my daughter-in-law, I told her I thought something was missing. She suggested the thin black mat, and it was the perfect addition to bring out the silhouettes of the trees in the photo.
