Saturday Scraplift: A Piecework Background

Even though I’m not a quilter, I do love looking at the beautiful patterns and colors in quilts. The pieced patterned paper background of Lacey Bittner’s sweet page immediately caught my eye in the gallery, and I also liked her edge treatments. The dotted twist and butterfly accents draw the eye right to that cute photo of her soon-to-be-forty sister. I couldn’t resist inviting some Creative Team members to lift Lacey’s page.

Mollie (readstoomuch) created a striking graphic page about her gardening resolution. Only two of Mollie’s background squares contain color, but that’s all she needed to direct attention to her great photograph. I love how her text border frames the entire page. Mollie, I’m right there with you in not wanting to be outside when the weather gets hot and humid.

Carolynn (mamabean) worked her trademark layering magic in lifting Lacey’s page. The photo treatment on the shot of her adorable son is wonderful, and the soft colors on her page echo the garden setting in that shot. It’s always so much fun to study Carolynn’s pages to find the details that enrich her designs.

I scrapped one of my daughter-in-law’s shots of my grandchildren and used the twist as a guide for the viewer’s eye. I had fun selecting patterned papers to use as a background and then added a couple more pieces of paper for a more layered look. And I do love the chance to use doilies on a layout, so I incorporated them in the form of brushes.

How will you piece together a lift of Lacey’s layout? There are lots of elements to inspire in her page, so I’m eager to see what you do with it. Post your page in the Saturday Scraplift Challenge Gallery.
