My laundry may be piled up, but I’m caught up on Project Life – Hurray! My family and I are loving every minute of this project and today I’d like to share a tip with you. I am so inspired by all the die cutting that I’ve been seeing on the paper versions of PL. I really wanted that look on my digital pages. I do not own a die cutting machine, but I found a way to get the look using products here in the store. Plus our designers are coming out with new amazing products each week for PL and some of them are die cuts that are ready to be placed on our pages.
I really like to die cut or punch out my own words. There are a couple of different ways you can do this in PS or PSE. The first way is to use the eraser tool. I load one of my favorite alphas, Grunged Up Alphabet No. 2 by Katie Pertiet. Then I simply click on my paper with the eraser tool. Once a drop shadow is added to the paper, it appears that the paper has been die cut.
I tried another way to achieve this look. Instead of using the eraser tool with Ali’s Thick Alphabet, I placed the PNG files on the page and then clipped the same brown paper that is used in the background giving the illusion that I had used a die cut machine.
There is probably more ways to get the die cut look, but what could be easier than to use the products that are ready to go?

I am loving the idea of trying new things on my PL pages. It is easy to be inspired when browsing the Project Life Gallery. Here is a closer look at my pages. Credits can be found in the PL gallery! Now, time to catch up on that laundry! ![]()
