One Theme, Three Scrappers: Heritage, Culture and Home

Top o’ the mornin’ to ya! Hi, it’s Debi (beehive50) here for this week’s “Three Scrappers: One Theme” challenge and it’s time to celebrate! And no, we’re not celebrating St. Patrick’s Day quite yet… well, unless you happen to be Irish! This week’s challenge just might take you away from all the green!

Join us as we celebrate our own heritage or culture… who we are, where we come from or just where we might be right now. Celebrate your unique heritage, a loved ones roots or even the country where you live right now. Let’s celebrate the rich, international diversity that is our DD family! Here are some wonderful inspirational layouts from Sam, Steph and Kelly to help jump start your creativity!

But, there’s a little catch… *wink* I challenge you to use your national colors on your layout! That’s right… take the colors from the beautiful flags of the world and use those colors on your layout. For example, maybe you’re Spanish… use the bold red and yellow of the Spanish flag on your layout. Or perhaps  your grandparents were from Sweden… add bright blue and yellow to your page. Or perhaps you want to celebrate living in France–bring on the blue, white and red! And hey… if you’re Irish, go for the green! *grin*

Sam lives in a most unique and diverse country: South Africa. She’s lived there for most of her life, but did you know she’s actually English by birth? I love Sam’s story and her fun, loving recap of her start in England but her deep-rooted love of her adopted country of South Africa. I love the way Sam added the flags to her layout, blending them into the background and using them like photo corners to anchor her beautiful photo!

Instead of telling us a story about her heritage, Steph documented her husband’s Norwegian heritage. How wonderful he was able to travel to Norway when he was younger and stay with relatives… what an adventure for a young man! I love her clean and simple layout… it’s perfectly Scandinavian! And, I love how she added just the little bits of red and blue from the Norwegian flag!

With the first name of Kelly, one would instantly assume that she is of Irish heritage. But, I think you can surmise (rightfully so!) from her amazing layout that she is very much Italian! Kelly has celebrated Italy in a most dramatic and creative way, using brushwork, blending and a sketch technique on her beautiful photo. I love the simple, blended border stripes of red and green… colors straight from the colors of Italy’s flag!
