Hello everyone and welcome to October’s Mask Appeal Challenge. I use masks A LOT in creating my pages. I especially like the Layered Blended Masks that Katie has created for us in the store. By using the mask in layered form, you can use all of the layers, or just a few. Clipping different papers to a few layers adds interest, as well as changing the blending modes. Katie has provided a freebie pack that includes one of her Artsy Layered Blends for this challenge that will be active through October 31. If you have never worked with the layered masks, now is the perfect time to give them a try.
Merrilee created a beautiful autumn page by clipping her photo to the layers and changed the blending modes. I also like how she colored the scribble red to go with the Readymade Border.

Trace (tracermajig) clipped her photo to one of the paint layers, a paper to the other and then changed colors and blending modes on the scribbles and scratches. She also used a Readymade Border and blended that in also.

I (jcaruth910) used a photo from my recent trip to Alaska and clipped it to the mask in it’s non-layered format, duplicated it and moved the different layers around the page and changed the blending modes on each layer as well as the opacity. Then, I brought the mask on to the the page in it’s layered format so that I could add a bit of color and dimension and move around the scratches. You can see that it creates an entirely different look than Trace and Merrilee’s pages. That’s why these are so cool!

I can’t wait to see all of your pages with this versatile, layered blended mask. Thank you, Trace and Merrilee for helping me out with your inspiring pages. Have fun everyone!
