Let’s Blend Challenge – Blending Brushes to Create a Clipping Mask

Hello and welcome to the first Let’s Blend Challenge for 2019!

Lately, I have been playing with different brushes and putting them together to create a mask. So, this month, we are going to do the same thing. Katie has given us a few brushes to work with as the freebie for this month.

What I like about using brushes is you can size them and position them anywhere you like to create a clipping mask. Here, I used one of my cardinal photos and just played with moving the brush around, changing the blend modes to highlight different areas of the bird. Remember, if you are clipping one photo to different brushes, you must duplicate your photo and clip it to each brush. You can also merge all the brushes together to create once mask, but then you don’t have the flexibility to move them around.

Here are a few pages I created as examples and the products I used. In addition to the free products: Flair Minis No. 1, Clean Stitched Circles No. 1, Pencil Line Twists No. 1, Typed and Scripted No. 6.

I used the brushes to create a cluster on my second page. By clipping some of the elements to the brushes, I softened them a bit.

Products used in addition to the free products: Winter Whites Solids Paper Pack, Scribbling Brushes No. 2, Winter Whites Painted Layers, Winter Whites Element Pack.

I look forward to seeing how you use these brushes on your own layouts. Don’t forget to post your pages in the Mask Appeal Challenge Gallery, using all DD products, along with all or part of the free products Katie has provided. Also, remember to post a link of your page in the January Challenge Participation Thread, so it will count toward your saving in the rewards program.
